"As WorldNetDaily reported, the new Harvey Milk High School opened this fall with 100 homosexual students, after undergoing a $3.2 million publicly funded renovation.

Using a rule prohibiting discrimination based on "sexual orientation," a group of New Yorkers filed suit challenging NYC's use of public funds to establish the first homosexuals-only high school in the Big Apple.

Democratic New York State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. and a mother representing her four children, all of whom attend New York City schools, are the plaintiffs in the case, represented by attorneys from the Liberty Counsel."
This, to me, is completely ridiculous. Whoever gave out the $3.2 million for a school serving only one hundred students, should be forced to pay it back to the taxpayers out of their own pocket(s). There's no reason for a homosexual-only public school, just as there is no reason for a white-only public school.

You'll note that a Democrat senator is one of the people filing suit against the school. I don't think this is really the thread for mindless Dem-bashing.

Perhaps you could post a source for that information, as long as you don't have to sit on a copy-machine to get a hard-copy of it?

As a teacher for the Department of Ed for the NYC school system I can tell you without fear of reprimand that the Department is solidly packed with Democrats, as is the state legislature.

Here are the members of the state legislature, peruse the number of democrates in the NYC area.

agree...3.2 mil for 100 students seems ludicrous. Is it expected to grow in size and some how offer a curriculumn that creates people who thrive in this world?

Is it exclusively for hs's? Can straights go too?

I couldn't agree more. I seems preposterous to me that this could ever happen. I realize that in society, particularly adolescent society, homosexuals have a very difficult time, however, things will never get easier for them if they are separate/segregated from everyone else. Acceptance comes form knowlege and experience. Does anyone have more info on the origins/history of this program?

P.S. FEL, please stop your knee-jerk "everything bad is due to Demcrats" posts, it weakens your persuasiveness. When you take time and explain your point of view you, your are much more influential and entertaining. When you simply shoot off a "It's the Dem's fault" post with no real backup, you make other want to just skip your posts. You have intelligent (while IMO misguided ) opinions - don't take the easy road.

Here is the first thing google had to offer on a search for:

Harvey Milk High School

here: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2720295a12,00.html

Police arrest students at gay high school
08 November 2003

NEW YORK: Five boys who attend a New York high school for gay and lesbian students are accused of dressing as female prostitutes and robbing unsuspecting customers, police said yesterday.

Dressed as women, the five approached men seeking prostitutes in Manhattan's West Village, a popular spot for the illicit sex trade. They then posed as undercover police as they stripped their victims of their wallets, credit cards, bank cards and cash, police said.

The youths, all aged 17 except for one 16-year-old, are charged with robbery and criminal impersonation of a police officer and will be charged as adults, police said.

Wearing wigs, earrings and makeup, the youths robbed five men, flashing phony police badges and handcuffing their victims, police said.

"You couldn't put this in a book. Nobody would believe it," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a weekly radio appearance.

The teens attend the city's Harvey Milk high school for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, police said.

They are suspected of committing other robberies as well, and police are asking other possible victims to come forward.

The youths were arrested Thursday by plainclothes police who recognized one of them from the victims' descriptions.

this is deplorable. I see the argument that these students deserve a learning environment free of discrimination... but how about we concentrate on raising kids who are accepting of different sexual orientations instead of quarantining the homosexuals so both sides can be happy and well adjusted until they finally do encounter each other? or is that out of the question?

and j8ear, that article has left me speechless.

Shit I'm still waiting for my $3.2Mil for that "green-grey-blue-eyed 6'2" brown hair'd strait skinny Irish-American males only" highschool. I'm sick of the other kids making fun of me and calling me "poopoo-head" and "hey, kid". ...of course it's too late now since I've graduated. Fucking politicians, always dragging their feet on the important issues.
