What if...?
I know most people, myself included, dont fit into one single political party. What if you could found your own political party? What would its cornerstones be? Its name? Its presidential nominee?
|
well, that's a lil far fetched.
the 2 party system is so etched into our government that it would be very hard to change. if i had my own party based on MY ideals, it would be far left on social issues and moderate centerisn on economic issues. i have no clue what i would call it and no clue on it's nominees (if there are any) |
Appernently everything else fits into liberatianism and that box checked "other"
evo |
if i could personally set up a party, it would be laissez faire economically, nearly socialistic domestically, and pacfist in democracy. name....hmmm the common man party. nominee, definitly nader.
Keep the posts coming |

Far left social means cha-ching$$$$$..and moderate centerisn (sic) economically means no money for social issues. How do ~you~ reconcile these discrepancies? Geez Dude...you walk right into these? -bear |
I'd probably form a party similar to The_Dude, but slightly Australianized. A few random ideological quirks such as support for the monarchy and suchforth, but otherwise reasonably left-wing socially, and just left-of-centre economically.
And I couldn't make much sense of J8ear's response. Though if he's worrying about who would foot the bill, my personal solution would be reducing the military budget. Not that I think moderate centrism wouldn't provide quite enough money for acceptable social programs. But perhaps thats just me. |
Slightly silly party :p
It would be based on the precept that people are at heart very silly, so the political process in which representatives of the people govern the people themselves is deeply silly, and would point that out at every opportunity. All representatives would be forced to wear funny hats and speak in fake British accents. John Cleese would be president. |

the military funding would definately be cut and i would try to eliminate as much of the pork barrel stuff. there would be limited welfare also. |
The "shut your face and run our country" party.
Anyone can be a member, as long as you promise to cut the shit and do your job. |
The R.adical I.ndependent P.olitical P.arty O.f F.reedom F.ighters!
Cornerstones: 1. Unless you can pass a literacy test, including mathematics, both written and oral you can't run for national office. 2. Secret Service protection ends the day you step down from power. 3. Budgets will be balanced or the Majority and Minority leaders get dropped off in Death Valley with a pint of water and no clothes, in July. Death Valley will be off limits to any other citizens during the month of July. 4. No contributions by individuals or groups of more than $500.00, viololations are eligible for the death penalty. 5. Re-instate the G.I. bill, with added benefits for anyone w/ a C.I.B.. 6. Death penalty for convicted rapists. 7. Stop giving arms to every freakin looney who claims to be anti-commie or anti-Islam. 8. Corporation CEO/CFO, and CIO's convicted of fraud or misconduct in contracts with the federal government get flogged to death in prime time, on tv, with their extended families in attendance. 9. Bud will no longer be considered beer but a form of laxitive. 10. Private vehicles getting less than 29 mph will have a $18K surchage added to the price to be used directly in mocking them in public. Photographs of buyers will be televised. 11. Every legal driver will be issued a single shot paint ball gun with three colors of balls. Any vehicle displaying 7 hits by red ball will be automatically pulled and the car confiscated. Lots more.... 2Wolves |
the problem with a third party is that it harms whatever party it is closest too in the conservative - liberal scale. When Nader ran as Green Party Candidate for president he took a good chunk of left wing voters from Gore which essentially lost him the election.
|
True, but a two party system harms Democracy itself.

My platforms
-No welfare, try and make a government work program, something similar to what FDR established -Legalize Marijuana that would not only save billions annually from the retarded drug war, also cut back in court/prosecution fee's... then I would regualte and tax it like cigarette's -I would probably be more conservative in foreign policy/ military -Definetly work to curb the spread of Islam, start to put the heat on the Arab's mainly Palestinians and Saudi's -I would Pull our boys out of N. Korea, the south doesn't want us there and it is a World War waiting to explode -Definetly Pro-Life -I'd be for civil unions, granting gay couples the same rights as a married couple in the eyes of the law. -As a whole though, if it ain't broke I'm not going to try and fix it. The party would tend to be more moderate, I am sick of partisan politics. |
2Wolves... interesting .... I kinda like it...

What would be the policy cornerstones of a party founded by me? Hmmm. In no particular order...
Economy & Business: Elimination of corporate personhood. Strict limits upon campaign contributions from corporations. Stricter penalties for accounting, wire, and securities fraud. Personal responsibility of corporate officers for the malfeasances of their corporations. Living Wage laws and reduction of payroll taxes. Continually progressivize taxation, including the estate tax. Retain Alan Greenspan or his ideological clone as chairman of the Fed. Reinstate federal ergonomic requirements. Transportation: Additional taxes on any vehicle averaging less than 22 miles per gallon city or 25 miles per gallon freeway. Mandatory periodic drivers tests for individuals younger than 24 or older than 70. Greater liability requirements for SUVs exceeding a certain height. Increased money to states earmarked for traffic infrastructure improvements. Environment: End all logging and drilling in ANWR. Strict logging caps. Rejoin Kyoto Treaty. Stiffer sanctions for corporate polluters. Increase enforcement budget of EPA. Increase National Parks Service operating budget. Media & Information: Reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine. Expansion of Digital Signatures Act. Strict enforcement of existing content-access-by-minors laws. End library Internet filters requirement, but require that youths under 18 may only use computers that do have filters. Roll back copyright terms to original limits (eliminating Bono Act, et. al.) Digital Freedom of Information act designed to reaffirm and strengthen fair-use and individual use rights of media. National Security & Foreign Policy: Eliminate Homeland Security Department, returning to status quo ante. Increase funding to FAA for air marshals and airport screening. Increase funding for Border Patrol. Increase funding for FBI earmarked for improving operations and flexibility. Increase funding for CIA Directorate of Intelligence. Repeal PATRIOT Act and any possible successors. Provide common-sense and useable framework for stopping domestic terrorism without infringing upon civil rights. Withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan except as required as part of UN peacekeeping activities. Return to non-interventionist foreign policy, respecting international law and soverignty of foreign states. End foreign aid for Israel until suitable Mideast peace roadmap progress. End Cuban sanctions. Revocation of MFN trade rights for China pending international human-rights verifications. Domestic Policy: Legalize marijuana. Move from incarceration-based justice system to rehabilitate-and-release justice system. Full recognition of rights for gays and lesbians with constitutional amendment if necessary. Legalize gay marriage. Legalize first-and-second-trimester abortion but require parental notification for minors. No third-trimester abortions except in cases of rape and/or incest. Promote alternatives to abortion including counseling and adoption. Universal health care, with single-payer system. That's just for starters. I may edit this with more ideas as time goes on. |

I know this is not on topic, but I go nuts every time someone says the United States is a Democracy. |
my platform would be as follows:
"i quit. run your own lives". and i mean that. |
Okay, as I see it, we have 2 candidates on this board, kind of a co-presidency situation.
Ctembreull and Splice You run, and at least I would vote for both of you. |

If my views were incorporated party that looked like it could take power, I'd be assassinated very quickly. I'm a constitutionalist, very small Federal Government. The Fed's protect us, from foreign and domestic threats. Keep the trains running. Etc. The umbrella things. States handle local issues.
