I took this before the site crashed. 11 out of 12 for me. If I remeber correctly I missed the number of ammendments to the constitution.

The_Dude 04-23-2003 06:22 PM

took it a while back, 11/12

crewsor 04-24-2003 03:28 AM

10 of 12, not too bad considering the length of time since I've studied that stuff.

SaltPork 04-24-2003 07:12 AM

Your score: 12 out of 12.

You're a model citizen.

Yay me!!

Grondar 04-24-2003 09:54 AM

4/12 :)

Sadly, I remember learning about this stuff in 12th grade Government class, but apparently it didn't stick.

Peetster 04-24-2003 10:00 AM

9 of 12. I'm an idiot. :-)

JoeyB 04-24-2003 10:00 AM

11/12. I added a few amendments that weren't actually there. I'm sure they were good ones and we actually could use them!!!!!

It would be fun to give this quiz to anyone who complains about too many immigrants coming to this country. Highest score between them stays....lowest score goes elsewhere.

(hopefully I wouldn't miss one!)

Kind of ironic, but I feel like I know more about the government systems and regulations of other countries than my own (USA), as throughout my entire schooling I have had 1 government related class, but many more that covered the history of countries other than my own.

Therefore, I think that an immigrant would know more than me about American government, especially if they are fleeing from their current countries government. I would think they would want to learn as much as they could about the "ideal" government and policies they are fleeing to (USA).

Just a thought.

Nad Adam 04-24-2003 11:27 AM

5 of 12, that's slightly better than picking them out at random. But I'm not american so who cares.

splck 04-24-2003 04:14 PM

10/12 but no plans on seeking american citizenship, so it dosn't matter.

Zotz 04-24-2003 05:54 PM

10 out of 12......I'm ready for Jeopardy

bundy 04-24-2003 09:25 PM

10/12
i think thats pretty good for an Aussie.
I wonder how we'd all score in an Australian citizen quiz?

bubbaspike 04-25-2003 06:02 AM

Bring it on!

maximusveritas 04-25-2003 08:44 AM

11/12.
I'm pretty sure most Americans would fail this test.

GreenCloud 05-01-2003 04:28 PM

10/12

7 of 12, but I remember getting 11 of 12 last time. Either I got many much more stupider, or it's because I've been up since 6:30 this morning.

4thTimeLucky 05-03-2003 02:59 PM

Maybe you 12 out of 12ers can help me.

Q. "Who has the power to declare war?"

A. "Only congress has the power to declare war."

I thought the the President could declare war for 30 days, but then needed Congressional approval for longer. Can someone clarify please.

Supposedly the ol' 30 day war thing isn't an official declaration of war. They usually call those "conflicts." Like how even though it was much longer than 30 days, because there was never officially a war declaration, they call it the "Vietnam Conflict" in some textbooks and such.

druptight 05-04-2003 10:46 AM

8, not too bad i guess.

raeanna74 05-04-2003 06:43 PM

9 out of 12. Would be a pretty poor score for school. Some of those things though we are led to believe that we vote for the president because we VOTE. It's what they do with our votes that makes the difference. The system worked fine for early America but I think it needs some work. Also about us being a republic - I know that's true but so often on the news they talk about democracy and being democratic that people get the wrong idea. Part of the problem isn't as much with the US citizens but our history/social studies textbooks and the teachers in our elementary schools. (I can talk because I've been an El Ed teacher) We don't teach or public the basics. We spend all this time on new movements in our country and politcal bias when we aren't spending enough time on the facts of how things are actually run and the structure of it all. If students/people understood the structure better we'd be running things better and they would understand why our government makes some of the decisions that it does. As far as imigrants - My opinion there is we started as a country with open doors but we hand out our taxes to people who refuse to learn the language that the majority use here. I know spanish some but that doesn't mean that I'm going to speak in spanish when everything else here is written and spoken in English first. The first immigrants had to learn to adapt not Americans to the immigrants.

Since the president is technically the commander in cheif, he can order the military to do anything, drop bombs, fight, whatever. Its not an official war until congress declares it, but that doesn't really matter. In case no one has noticed, we haven't fought an official war since world war II (I don't think the first persian gulf war was officially declared, but I could be wrong).

The 30 days thing comes from the war powers act, which they passed after Vietnam. It says that the president has to seek congressional approval to send troops overseas for more then 30 days. Pretty much every president has said its unconstitutional, though its never been tested in court.

Incidentally, I got a 12 out of 12, but I'm a political science major, so I damn wll better have :D .

iccky 05-14-2003 11:35 AM

Heres a thought, put this in the general forum as a poll, and see how people who don'tt on a politics forum do.
