What do you think they are afraid to disclose the truth?
Is it going to tell us that some of the Saudis support the terriost or the fact that Bush is hungry for oil?

Did it ever occur to you that mabie the government knows something about the remaining terrorists that if these individuals heard they would change their pattern of activity and go deeper underground. Terrorists are intelligent people they read and watch the news just like you do. Mabie, there is information in the report about how the CIA and NSA go about collecting their inteligince. Wouldn't it be bad if that got out? Or mabie it has the names of the agents or our operatives over seas that would suffer brutal deaths if the terorist nations got a hold of their names. These are the kinds of things that are in inteligince reports, and thats why any intteligince report released by any administration, not just the curent one, will have pieces of information left out.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of the 28 pages that were blacked out were to do with Saudi Arabia's involvement in the training/funding of the 9/11 hi-jackers. I believe there is another thread somewhere about this?

If the White House wants to protect the Saudi government from embarassment then why has the Saudi government told the White House it has no objections to the release of the classified (and supressed) portion of the 9/11 report? The Saudi Govt even asked that the classified portion of the report dealing with the "Saudi connection" be published. (As reported today on CNN). Could it be that the real reason for the White House to supress this portion of the 9/11 report is because it would reveal the financial ties between the Bush family and the bin Laden family and other Saudi royals having ties to bin Laden and al-Qaida's financial network? Bush is hungry for oil? I don't know about him in general but I think he should be, we should be as a nation. Oil is invaluable to defending our nation, keeping our economy afloat, exploring space, the ocean, etc.

Without it, why, we'd be fucked. So yeah, he probably is hungry for oil, and every person who wishes to responsibly lead this country should be. I just can't wait until we get ahold of hydrogen cars. That's when we can ravage their pussy nation and set all those mother fuckers on fire.

Totaly agree here. Oil is essential to everything we do in America if you want the president to be less concerned with oil stop driving your car or using anything else that requires oil. The government may well want to protect the saudies but I doubt that thats the reason that all of that is classified I mean everyone here seems to know the saudies were conected so its not realy that secret anyway. I think its more like Lunatic said there are many people performing a valuable service to this country and they don't need their work to be compromised.

Heard a talking head report by one of the members of the Commision on Protecting * Reducing Government Secrecy...and it was very intresting. According to their findings, brought to Congress in 1997, there is a vast mass of material that is classified with out valid reason, and keeps the american people in teh dark about intelligence failures, prevents accountability, fuels paranoia and distrust, and generally harms our intrests as a free nation. I'm inclined to agree. The more that can be released, the more trust can reasonably be placed in the institutions that are sworn to protect us. Faith should never be blind....especially in governments.

Official statment says that the classified parts would put American lives in danger as long as the war on terror goes on. For some reason I don't think that the war on terror is ever going to end, mostly because its a concept and idea and ideas cannot be killed. But even in 12 years, when Bush is (hopefully) long gone, these documents will stay secret. The govenment has no interest in putting out papers that would alienate its allies and enrage the public. It's just not in its best interest.

It was something to that effect, something a Supreme Court Justiced offered when the New York Times beat the Nixon Executive Branch in that issue involving "The Pentagon Papers"

I think the gist of the decision went, "just because you declare it so (classified) doesn't make it so" NYT publish what ever you want...Nixon, shame on you for using your office and National Security to shield your criminal activities.

I doubt any of that is going on but of course can't know for sure, unless I read the 28 pages....and the rest of the entire report. It all strikes me in two ways....One...the forbidden fruit. Can't have it, must make hay about trying to get it. Two...the whole report is probably a fabricated tangle of half truths, designed to exonerate federal agencies from culpibilty. Just like practically everything that comes out of our Feds.

How great, this great administration covers up the truth yet again and it doesn't seem to matter to most people. Not so long ago Forbes magazine published the list of the worst dictators on the planet and I believe the worst was the King of Saudi Arabia and Saddam ranked down around number 5....who should we fear more?

You guys are all wrong. Bush is hungry for oil, but not for the economy -- he wants a lifetime supply so that he can fill his bathtub up with the precious liquid and bathe in it like a pig. It feels so nice against the skin, and works wonders for your complexion.

Realistically, Bush (or a cohort) most likely knows that if information was released publicly that a couple of Saudi officials helped the 9/11 hijackers, that there would be a back-lash against anyone of Saudi (or Arabic) descent. Again.

What makes you think they'll actually do it then? The public knowing that government officials willfully participated and then concealed, manipulated, and destroyed evidence in the assassination of a US President could do nothing but undermine the stability of the government. You think the future politicos are going to let that happen? Hell no they're not.

The truth will never be released unless someone steals the evidence and manages to get it released before martial law is declared and the First Amendment is suspended.

For a moment though lets assume there is a cover up, what could we possibly learn from 28 pages on one instance about the Saudi's that we didn't already know? The information most likely just isn't worth the price.

I agree that the Saudi King is a bastard, but what do you want for us to do? Invade Saudi Arabia and subjugate their people? Me too, but it just isn't prudent right now.

Actually, this is one move that makes a bit of sense.

If the report came out in its entirety, it would most likely finger some key saudis.

I can only guess that there would be a HUGE American backlash against Saudi Arabia.

This in turn would destabilize the current (American friendly) government of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Royal family is some 30,000 people believe it or not. Some of them want to be king and pope, but they can not unless the current gov't is tossed out some how. These are most likely the ones funding or aiding the terrorists, but only for totally selfish reasons.

Right now, the last thing the middle east needs is another unstable gov't.

The end result of an unstable saudi gov't would be that the house of saud would fall, and it would be quite possible that a fundamentalist islamic gov't would take it's place, possibly even those who helped support 911.

By fingering the Saudis (and rightfully so) the Americans would be playing right into the hands of Osama Bin Ladden and company.

It's about 1100 pages, right? And only 28 are classified?

Odds are the pages cover two things, names names (probably Saudi's) and tells key things that we don't want them to know that we know.

Why the both? Because they'd probably go hand in hand.

Why have everything classified? Because in case no one remembers, our military currently is spread to all hell and will be for a while longer.
