Republicans: What do you think of General Wesley K. Clark?

Hey everyone. I just wanted to get an idea of what you all thought of General Wesley K. Clark. I have read about him and know his acheivements and what not, but I am not really *that* informed about different political candidates and I know there are a few of you that are. So, what do think about this Clark guy possibly getting drafted to run for President. Just trying to get some different opinions.

Oh....and I've got this co-worker who wont shutup about this guy so Im just looking to see what you all think because I value your opinion more than hers.

Had to reply to this even though I am not a Republican. Just about everyone I know is a Republican, including my life long mentor who is a staunch Republican and a retired "full-bird" Colonel. Clark is my personal favorite among the would be contenders, so I have taken the issue to my friends. Almost all of them feel he would be a serious threat to Bush if he can A) get the nomination and B) raise the money.

The Colonel has met Clark and says that even he would consider crossing party lines and voting for Clark were he the candidate.

I could really go on about Clark but I too am interested in what Republicans have to say

The NATO general? I've seen him a few times and didn't think much of his political views, I would not vote for him.

General Clark - is a 1966 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he graduated first in his class. He holds a master's degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar (August 1966-August 1968). He is a graduate of the National War College, Command and General Staff College, Armor Officer Advanced and Basic Courses, and Ranger and Airborne schools. General Clark was a White House Fellow in 1975-1976 and served as a Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. He has also served as an instructor and later Assistant Professor of Social Science at the United States Military Academy.

Bush - Fucking puts his signature on the American Flag.
I will not vote for Bush again, as the president needs to be a figurehead of strengh to proporly represnt this countrys atributes.

Bush does not fill this role even though he is a *competent* leader. Not a great leader, but competent. If Clark runs as the Republican Canidate i will vote for him. That is to say if Lieberman doesn't grab the Democratic nomination.

I have very strong feelings about voting for presidents with military backgrounds. Not a big fan of it. I would also not vote for a colin powell. Most definitly not for a Hillary Cliniton.

So there you have it i'd like a man of competence with a strong education background and a carrer of service to this country through polotics to run for president. I would vote for him. Also he can't be a pussy.

Then again i won't be getting that so i will vote for the canidate i deam to be "more"qualified for the job.

Yeah, Clark is a Democrat. FYI, both Eisenhower and Powell kept their politics to themselves during their military years and both considered being Democrats. Reality is look at the person not the party if you want to find the best.

I wouldnt vote him just because of the following incident. The poor decision there doesnt make me feel particulary safe with him in office. (I copied and pasted this from enigmous.com)

In 1999, while NATO forces occupied Kosovo, a Russian parachute brigade from Bosnia sent a reconnaissance team into Kosovo to secure Pristina airfield, which was critical to the NATO occupation of Kosovo. General Clark ordered his lieutenant, British General Sir Mike Jackson, to force the Russians off the airfield and resecure it. Clark said that this would be done by sending in British airborne troops, paratroopers, and the elite SAS. Jackson was appalled and refused to carry out the order. "I'm not going to be responsible for starting World War Three," Jackson told Clark.

Military expert David Hackworth, writing on this subject, said that "there's a time that a commander has to be insubordinate to do his job and his mission comes first and I'm certainly thankful that General Jackson stood tall and did the right thing." Hackworth pointed out that, at the time, Russia still had many ICBMs pointed at London and Washington and that there were still many "hardliners who would like nothing better [than to] press that little red button." Geoffrey Regan, in studying military blunders, said that if a fight broke out between NATO and Russian troops, "it is inconceivable that Russia's political leadership would have allowed her troops to be defeated and humiliated by the West." Regan considered Clark's decision "one of the least appropriate responses in military history."

Hell I'd vote for the guy over Bush. Bush is pitiful, he was elected as a republican and all this time he hasn't been doing a whole lot of republican-ing.
