The CA Dems are being pretty farking stupid to get caught talking like that, but i'd like to see a party in any state or nation that hasn't intentionally played chicken with a budget. Seretogis, you happen to remember when the republicans shut down the government to get clinton to flinch on approprations? The Republicans, prolonging a budget crisis for policical gain? Recall that?

And btw, it was in every paper in town, even the Red Star Tribune. If they carried it, front page IIRC, i'm pretty sure you don't have a case for liberal media cover up.

You know finland has the least corrupt polotics in the world?

according to some UN survey of how the people felt about their government.

Then again US > Finland so maybe government does represent the people

We could easily fix corrupt politicians by just voting for robots.

Are you saying that the California Democrat nonsense was in the Star Tribune, front-page?

I don't get the ST, for obvious reasons, so I wouldn't know if it was covered. However, it wasn't on any national newspaper site that I searched, ABC, NBC, CBS, or our local news stations. A couple of days after there was a 30 second blurb about it on "NBC Nightly News" though, so it wasn't a complete media black-out.

I didn't hear about it anywhere else but Fox myself. But then again I didn't ever really look.

Just checked, it was pioneer press, but it did make the bottom fold, i believe of the A section on June 22...this was read over coffee at a resturant, so forgive the lack of detail. They carried the AP's text, pretty much as it was reported else where.

I'm still pretty unmoved by your claims that the dems were particularly unique in making a budget crisis a political event.

"I'd like to hear some of the republicans on this board defend New Gingrich's shutdown of the government in 1995."

Did Bill Clinton not veto the first budget sent to him by congress that year?

The way I remember it Bill Was holding up the budget presented by the newly elected republican majority in the house......they finally relented....(selective memory maybe?...mine) It really is just a matter of perspective isn't it?

As an aside.....so what if the government shuts down for a while....How will it change your behavior?

I won't be any more or less lawless...I'll keep on working and living. The potholes will still be there....the politicians will still be there.
I need very very little from the government...which they provide so well. I'll take care of my family and they'll take care of me
Why is that so hard to understand....

Someday all those sucking at the teats of government will have to stand up for themselves. Get off the gravy train slackers...(you know who you are!)

Try this for a refresher......

The dems wouldn't acer if they did, they seem to judge how well they are doing on how many people are being helped by their social programs, this would only make them do better.

My stance on this is more of a "Ha! Democrats aren't as snuggly with 'The People' as they claim" one, than to suggest that Republicans don't do the same thing. I'm not a Republicrat or a Dempublican.

Misguided or not, it appears that they beleive that temporary pain would bring about the long term public good...and that's about the philosophy of over budget battle. If Howard Dean gets cought talking about bringing the proletariat to their knees, then you might have more of a point.
