Ok, I don't have the energy to safeguard myself by stating how I know everyone here is responsible, etc., so I'm gonna assume you all know I believe it to be so.

A valid point, but how about the drunk, the kids, the irresponsible, the scatterbrained who leave their legally purchased weapon where their 5-year-old can reach it, the mentally unstable who slipped through the "screening process", etc.?

Actually, that is what it says.
And frankly, the idea of private citizens having nukes doesn't bother me...for one thing, most people are smart enough not to commit suicide with one; a suicide wants to kill -himself-, not people arund him. For another, a policy of MAD with Washington might have some positive results; like politicians actually doing what they're supposed to, for one. Which was, incidentally, the original purpose of the 2nd Amendment. See my earlier posts on this for further citations.
