Gordon Brown is on the edge
The council results - not the share of the vote but the actual councils lost are absolutely disasterous.
LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS Party +/- Total CON +191 1221 LD -13 423 LAB -210 144 OTH +25 148 This isnt final, but as we stand Labour is behind OTHERS (and these are only English councils, so no Welsh/Scots Nationalists in the equation) 6 ministers have walked out, the big guns who could have taken Brown out (Milliband, Darling, Johnson) have bottled it, made the decision that if they get rid of Brown they HAVE to go to the people - they cant give us two unelected PMs,,, and hanging on under a lame duck primeminister for 6 months might make the savaging at the General Election less brutal. My view is that six more months of Brown could mean Labour are out of power for a generation. If they take the bullet now maybe only two terms. Its in the hands of the backbenchers now, but Brown will not go of his own accord - I genuinely think he believes he is not only the best man for the job, but the only one who can save the country.

He's a egotistical demagogue. Pretty much every politician in the current representitive systems are, especially in the highly centralised systems, like Britain...
"I am here to save you the vast majority of you!" is almost, but not quite as irksome a political position as "I am here to save you all from yourselves, and give what I get to my buddies!", but in the UKsian system they're both pretty insane. The lot need to get gone for good.

Labour are between a rock and a hard place. If they sack Brown they MUST call a general election which will be a slaughter
But if they keep him another year, as he begins to show signs of mental breakdown ("Obama beach?")... it could be much worse in the end. If they are in 4th place in the Euro results which come out today it may well be the final straw. If it isnt as bad as expected he maybe can cling on and ride out the storm (again) - but how long till the next disaster?

I think the only option if they ditch brown is to call for a national unity govt to reform the political system and purge the infidels.
Of course, it'd just be theatre... But it's just possible that everyone might come aboard. There are, certainly, too many problems all at once to launch straight into a 'business-as-usual' general election at the moment.

It looks like Europe has shifted right. Even BNP got two seats. WTF?
European elections pound Britain's Brown | csmonitor.com I think Brown is doomed—the worst Labour result in 100 years.

15% for Labour. Second in Wales, second in Scotland, FIFTH in South West and South East.... this is very very bad.
Rumours on the blogs that Purnell will stand against Brown as a stalking horse candidate. The PLP meeting is going on now. I think anyone else would have walked under both the pressure and the overwhelming evidence of their own failure and weakness. But Brown is what I think is called a "Right Man"... he really believes he does know best. The Labour Party must act quickly and without mercy. In my opinion they face being wipe out for a generation if they allow another year of this disasterous leader.
