I see this as an indication of new direction....what say you?

It depends what they do with them. I think it is a good first step, but it will be more symbolic than anything.

Will we put them on a prison boat sailing in international waters? Some of them will be taken back to their home countries and imprisoned there. Maybe we should build a massive jail in the middle east somewhere.

to the extent that it represents a wholesale break with the policy void that was the bush administration, yes.

the pragmatic questions are simply the pragmatic questions---it is better tha obama takes the united states off a footing in which it sees itself as outside all law because it posited an imaginary threat to it's existence. what happens to be folk who remain in gitmo should be done to complete to job of bringing the united states back into the domain of international law, conventions concerning the treatment of detainees, and of requirements of due process.

I have my doubts just due to the fact of what his 2 advisers are saying and the issue that executive orders have a way of rarely being executed or partially executed.

Let's just set them adrift in the Bermuda triangle...jk!!

In truth, how about sending them back to the country they came from and just let that place deal with them. Why does the USA think we have to be the supreme last word for international terrorists?

only problem there is when said home country is "terroristic" - at least by our standards. That basically sets them free and allows them to resume their terrorist ways
