What is the reaction from the losers?

Can we use this thread to compile articles that tell about the reaction from the voters who vehemently denounced Obama? They probably voted for McCain because of religious or racial beliefs and they now find that there is someone running the country who they have grand misconceptions of. What is their reaction?

i don't have articles, but the gym where i teach has some VERY upset people. From the 'did you see this attack' thread..the lady in question was in wailing the other day, tears streaming and just utterly distraught at what was going to happen to her country. Actually, my facebook status updates are about as telling as anything.."I'm wearing out my jeans from having to pray so much for this country over the next four years' and "wow, how can people be so stupid" and my fave, "I'm going to drink, quit my job and wait for my check now, thank you socialism"

I have a few military friends still stationed in Okinawa, one of them was very upset and commented that he was glad that he won't be back in the US for another three years. It kinda disappointed me that his reaction was no better than upset Kerry supporters who threatened to move to Canada if he didn't win back in 04.

To be honest, the level of bitching and moaning from Republican supporters is disappointingly hypocritcal of them considering how badly they mocked Democrat supporters who were upset with the outcome of the 2000 election.

I agree, it's all posturing and gesticulating.

McCain's concession speech reminded me of the class act he truly is. It's unfortunate that he sold his soul to the devil so he could secure a Republican nomination. I can only hope that as he returns to his Senate seat, we can once again see his true maverick spirit that once made him the bane of the Republican establishment and help prevent his party's degeneration into mindless ideology without a purpose.

I'm seriously losing my mind with all of these people. All I ever hear or see is how this country is going to become a communist state or "how can you vote for someone who isn't a Christian?"

Sometimes this country just disappoints me.

I have a feeling the republican party is going to shun him because of this election season so I can totally see him going back to his wily ways in the Senate.

I found this conversation on Facebook. Not an article, but real people with real thoughts nonetheless. I took out they're last names. Rachel's the one I know and thought was smarter than this.

Quote:
Adam is moving out of the country under the protection of Political Assylum!!! 7:57am

Greg at 8:21am November 5
...nobody is trying to kill you because of political reasons.

Adam 9:01am November 5
im just moving because of Obama

Greg at 9:57am November 5
oh you want a president that is going to continue running the country into the ground?

Joshua at 2:12pm November 5
dude, whats ur beef with obama?

Adam at 2:23pm November 5
im a republican, Obama is a terrorist-loving democrat who is not going to "change shit" in 4 years. I do not like Obama. He is not my president. its that simple.

Rachel at 2:34pm November 5
amen!

Joshua at 2:40pm November 5
no offense, but thats the same kinda thinking that has gotten us in the mess were in now, and if u dont like the country and think america is screwed then get out, change is comming with or with out u bigoted americans

Rachel at 2:45pm November 5
oh he will change things alright, but not the way he or everyone else thinks...

Greg at 4:00pm November 5
well id rather have him possibly fail than have another republican who will continue the policies that have got us to the shitty place were in. and no, i dont hate john mccain, i just think he believes the way to fix america is very closely in line with the way our recent government thought. and that he wouldnt last 4 years and then that crazy redneck palin would have become president.

Rachel at 6:16pm November 5
i jus dont understand how america could elect a president whos not even christian....thats what blows my mind

Matthew at 6:49pm November 5
"i jus dont understand how america could elect a president whos not even christian....thats what blows my mind"
Church and State buddy. This issue should not matter....Besides he is christian. Chill.

Rachel at 7:03pm November 5
christians dont kill babies and obama is pro-choice so whatever you say...
i dont like mccain either because he was too liberal to be considered a republican so im glad he lost. jw - did you think obama was the best choice from the beginning?

Matthew at 7:18pm November 5
yes, i voted for him in the primaries.

Matthew at 7:40pm November 5
I also liked Dennis Kucinich. Very to the point, VERY LIBERAL, also had a sense of humor. However, he didn't make it far in the primaries and I could see Obama would go places.

Rachel at 7:44pm November 5
yeah i kinda knew he would win....especially since he was running against mccain (too old, too LIBERAL lol)
im just interested/nervous to see what will happen now

Matthew at 7:53pm November 5
eh, I wouldn't worry too much. I think of it like this, he isn't Bush, and he is certainly something new.
Since I am Liberal, it doesn't bother me that he is also liberal. That's actually why I voted for him lol.

Greg at 8:47pm November 5
christians kill TONS of babies i have no idea what your talking about. your against abortion? oh no! but wars to defend your 'god' are alright? nobody dies in those? or is it ok because theyre not like you?

Adam at 9:13pm November 5
Easy Greg, thats my cousin youre pickin a fight with. What RECENT wars have their been "defending" "our" god? He's your god too whether you like it or not.

Rachel at 9:16pm November 5
dude stfu i never said i was for war! i am a girl ya know not some blood-thirsty criminal. all i know is God doesnt want us to war or hate. you shouldnt look at christians as a whole because most ppl who say theyre christian nowadays truly arent. to some its just a title when its supposed to be a way of life.
but back to what matthew was saying ~ youre right no one should worry too much because God is in control after all and he wont let us fall.

Adam at 9:17pm November 5
On a related note, this is an ongoing debate I'm having about Prop 8 and really shows what these anti-Obama morons are like:

Quote:
Amy is so proud of California: they voted yes to ban gay marriage! Good JOB CALI!

Michael at 6:17pm November 5
Are you being serious?

Amy at 10:50pm November 5
I am very serious! That is one positive that has come out of the Obama admin and he is not even in office yet...

Michael at 10:55pm November 5
I don't see how that has any effect on you, but okie dokie...

Amy at 10:56pm November 5
I am really happy California took a step in the right direction.

Michael at 11:07pm November 5
What I meant was, I don't see how gay marriage has any real effect on you, a straight girl, or why you should be happy about a select group of people having their constitutional rights taken away from them. While I see it from a strictly impartial, political viewpoint, it even says in the Bible people should have free choice, so either way I don't see how the passing of Prop 8 is a positive in any way. You're free to have your own opinion, but I just can't identify with it in the slightest.

Amy at 11:30pm November 5
I am free to have the my own opinion and that is I am HAPPY gay marriage got banned in Cali. BTW: the Bible does say free choice but it is BY NO MEANS in relation to being gay or not! THat is taking the Bible out of context!

Michael at 12:18am November 6
Well, are you at least for non-religious civil unions, so they can have all of the rights of a married couple without trespassing on your religious viewpoints?

Amy at 10:57am November 6
What are you talking about?

Michael at 1:52pm November 6
The whole point of having gay marriage is to give gay people the same rights as everyone else, because they are equal to everyone else. The biggest reason they want gay marriage is so they can have the benefits brought on by marriage. Allowing them to take on a civil union and have all of those rights, but not call it marriage so as not to trespass on religious viewpoints, seems like it would be acceptable. The question was what is your opinion on them having "civil unions" that are only contracts with the state rather than religious marriages?
This is why I'm moving to Canada. People like this. They're going to give me a fucking brain tumor.

I don't personally know him, but longtime politicians have been commenting that the speech is the McCain of 30 years they've long respected. Hope that answers some of that question; the other stuff, like personality quirks of being an asshole sometimes , seem to be the real deal but I'm an asshole when I feel cornered and losing and yeah can't hold that too much against the man personally.

While you have found an exceptional group of misinformed people to debate with, I promise you you'll find more of the same in Canada. Unless your plan is to move somewhere in the wilderness, barter for goods, hunt for food and not otherwise interact with other people. Idiots are everywhere, and they're involved in politics everywhere. It's kind of part and parcel to democracy.

for whatever it's worth, i have nothing against mc-cain as a human being. like alot of folk have said, i do not think he was well-served by his campaign, which was in turn not well-served by being republican after 8 years of george w bush. but enough of mc-cain as a person appeared around the packaging to indicate that he is basically a good person, someone who might be interesting to have a beer with---in a public place, with an easy and graceful exit plan in place on all sides.

hell, i even had a sense of the gap that separates george w bush as a human being from george w bush the political package, whose policies i have opposed entirely from the outset, during the short press conference he gave yesterday. he was gracious and you could feel for the guy a bit, as you'd feel for anyone in a kind of wistful space at the end of a long run of doing something.

i know alot of folk who are conservatives--some of them i am quite close to and there's no jump between opposing the politics they believe in and thinking them bad people---that's one reason i focus so much on the language conservatives use, because it had boxed them in so tightly.

there are exceptions, of course. most of the mediocrities that populate conservative television and radio for example seem like genuinely vile human beings. limbaugh is maybe the smartest of them, and sometimes i wonder about what he'd be like to meet. but nitwits like hannity? not worth the time.

on the op, you can find a large harvest of conservative idiocy about obama here:
Republican Politics, Conservative Issues, Political Cartoons, Blogs, News, Videos, Talk Radio ? Townhall.com.
and here:
National Review Online

though the second is not as universally stupid as the first.

i wonder about sources for the really vile stuff, though.
anyone trawl about those regions of the net?
i have stuff to do at the moment--maybe i'll get to researching it later.
but it'd be better if someone who trawled these areas were to pick out the choicest finds.

Change brings on two things.... excitement or fear. I would agree that if you moved to Canada that there are people who are just as misinformed on any issue. People who oppose gay marriage, promote racism, religious hate... etc, but I find that you cannot make everyone happy. I live in the most conservative province (Alberta) change is scary here, but I find that people over time accept change. I'm unhappy with the reactions of people in the US and I would not welcome some of them living here just for the sake of escaping their president. McCain lost, was a class act, and start to embrace your new president.

Plus, I think most of the people who I've seen, didn't vote, yet complained the loudest.

when nader explains his position, he's right.
nader is the only candidate who actually says anything about the situation that actually confronts us.

who cares if he poses a bit of static for the television love-fest?

The people who vote for him (and those who did not) will have to hold his feet to the fire and make him live up to his promises of “change”. Too often in the past we have just elected someone and then gone about our business – often complaining about what is being done or not done.

This time it has to be different!

I agree. Barack Hussein Obama II will be the President of the United States of America on 20 January 2009. We owe him our support, confidence, and prayers. If he makes decisions we agree with, we should acknowledge it. If he is open to suggestions, we should provide ideas. If he is wrong, we need to make that known to him. He is my commander-in-chief.

My friends and family members:

I have always made it clear whom I wished to see as our next president. Well, that is over now. The people have spoken with a resounding voice and Senator Obama is the choice of Americans. On January 20th he will be OUR President... Yours and mine. He will be facing unbelievable world and domestic problems. That means these problems are ours also. We MUST stand behind the Presidency even though we might not have liked the election outcome. Our President will need all our prayers and cooperation when he faces the terrors of this planet.

Shall we stop the bickering and all join in making this almost insurmountable task as easy for our president as possible? I'm betting we can--- and will!

I don't have any articles, but I have what I see and hear around here. For the most part, republicans are saying that they hope he does the right thing and will take the country where it goes.. however, the uber-conservative right wingers are still pissed off and still have their Palin Power stickers on their cars and the McCain signs in their yards. Some people have said they can't believe a nigger was elected into office and that this country has lost it's way (I guess Lincoln's speech means nothing)

I put up an Obama sign in my office the day after the election to get reactions from people. Most just laughed because they knew I was trying to get a rise out of people but some people gave me some shit for it and continue to believe that he will sell us out to the terrorists and that we will become a minority blah blah blah. One man even went so far as to saying he would never let his daughter marry an Obama supporter because 'mixed race' people are scum. (granted, I wouldn't have wanted to marry that hick anyway)

So basically, I see most people are handling the loss quite well and hoping that Obama can turn things around--and reserving judgement.. but there are still some who can't get past the propaganda that is spread by bigots and ignorants.

Sadly it's true. We have a good sized bunch of idiots up here too, they just don't have Fox News to broadcast it.

I see nothing for conservatives to hope for in an Obama administration. We just have to stick it out. This shallow, ignorant, self-obsessed man, who held an actual job for just one year of his charmed life (low-grade editing for an obscure newsletter — he felt, he tells us in Dreams, “like a spy behind enemy lines,” the enemy of course being capitalism), this red-diaper baby and his wife, will be our First Couple for the next four years and some weeks. It’ll be interesting. Interesting.
Palin Says McCain Workers Are Jerks

Quote:
As she returned to Alaska Friday, Palin told CNN the post-election stories may have been pushed by campaign staffers who helped prepare her for a debate with Biden.

"Those were taken out of context and that's cruel," Palin said. "It's mean-spirited. It's immature. It's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it, taking things out of context, and then tried to spread something on national news."

Many people I went to college with whole-heartedly believe that Obama is a Muslim (like that's a bad thing), that he IS going to let his FRIEND terrorists into the country, that he will let the US get run over by evil and that he wants niggers and faggots to rule the world. I have no articles but all of these viewpoints are not only real but are widespread where I'm from.

A huge church in my city sent around an email that eventually got forwarded to my mother in law and it basically said Obama is a terrorist with terrorist friends and if you vote for him you're going to hell. This is the same church that sent around a bulletin that said to boycott Muslim stamps being sold in the US a year after 9/11 also because Muslims are the type of people who ram planes into buildings.

So basically the reaction around here from 75% of Republicans is "we're going to Hell and to make it worse everybody will have my money but me."

I overheard two young women talking at the store. They were probably in their early 20's.

<girl #1> "Yea...mom says Obama is perfect for President, because he's half white, half black, and that's exactly what this country needs right now."

**both laugh hysterically**

<girl #2> "That's the exact opposite of what she was saying when she voted against him!"

**more hysterical laughter**

pretty much the same thing around here as well.. I don't think I've ever heard Muslim thrown around as much as I do now.. sad that people lump all muslims to terrorists.
