So it wasn't the newsfeed's fault... they were showing a different set of figures than might have been expected, s'all. :)

Electoral stuff, fairly ok.

Democrat winning is ok, right? ;)

Eh, they're all the same in the end. Rhetoric, empty promises, then business as usual.

Just a side note of how the media plays: I totally understand that this is truly history, that a man who is half black, half white, became the president. What I don't like is the media's constant use of "African-American" because I can guarandamntee that, while they continue to hyphenate, they will also keep espousing the "coming together" of American people.
It all reminds me of the "one drop rule" and it's covertly racist in my mind. If we are really supposed to "come together", let's stop with the drop and get down to business.
For the next four years, his color and background will overshadow everything and the media will feed it to us.
/end cynicism

ngdawg....it really troubles me to see comments like this....but I'm glad you agree that this election was truly historic.

We would have to put ourselves in the skin of a Black American (even "one drop") to fully understand the impact in the Black community.

The country should celebrate this historic moment....but in short order, the press will move on beyond the issue of Obama's race....the vast majority of American will move on beyond the issue of Obama' race... the Black community will move on beyond the celebration of something many thought they would never see in their lifetime.

The focus will be on attempting to solve the enormous problems we face as a nation....hopefully in a way that attempts to bring people together.

Will race be an issue? Only in the sense that Obama is in a unique (and most powerful) position to provide the opportunity for a national dialogue to address the racial divide in this country that still exists in many respects.

Will Obama's color and background "overshadow everything" for the next four years? Hardly.....unless some cynics chose to make it so in a less than honest manner.

I don't see why you're "troubled". Truth is that thru media feed, it gets almost impossible to see beyond skin color. History, of course, and maybe that's what troubles me-it should be a matter of course, not a prominent factor. *shrug* Oh well, sometimes I have to hear it being said before I realize someone is black, so to me this isn't as big a deal as it's being made, but I get it.

When Carter was elected, he was because no one wanted anything to do with the Nixon years, so we "wiped the slate clean". Man, did that GA. boy fuck up...and when he did, it was blamed on his "peanut farmer" background, his inexperience, his roots.
Time will tell if we're repeating ourselves now.

How do you take more states and not win? So every state should have an equal vote?

Wow. That would create rebellion. I don't think New York and California would sit tight with Alaska and Nebraska cancelling out their votes.

Alaska already gets two senators (one officially corrupt and still winning). They should be damn happy we send them checks every year to rape their state.

I am always troubled by cynics who look for the worst outcome rather than contribute to, or even acknowledge the possibility of, something better.

Nope. Popular vote only. Not that it would have made a difference in this election, but it might have in past ones. In 2000, Gore won the popular vote, but Bush took the electoral and thus the presidency....that alone tells us the Electoral College should be done away with.
