Absurdity of the day: Al Qaeda endorses McCain for President
On Al Qaeda Website, Joy Over U.S. Crisis, Support For McCain [B click to show Kinda hard to criticize Obama for 'palling around with terrorists' when you're getting endorsed by them, ya know? |
Don't tell me you fell for that. They backed Kerry in the last election and it back fired on them. Who do you think a terrorist would want in power. A president who wants to sit and talk about why they hate us, or one who will invade a Country then ask why they hate us. I'm not saying the latter statement is the correct one, just who do you think they'd want. Umm, just for the record my senses say they are using reverse psychology.

I thought it was Obama who said he would go into Pakistan if he knew from reliable intel where Bin Laden was and the Pakistanis were not willing to act. And McCain said he would keep talking with the Pakistanis and not act w/o their support. |
The terrorists want McCain because:
a) he will keep fighting the war in Iraq... a war which has been the biggest success in terms of growth in membership and support. and b) I can't think of anything that will turn the heads of moderate Muslims than a US president that in stead of saying things like you are either with us or you are against us says that he will open talks with places like Iran. and c) how do you think the optics of a black president with a name like Barrak Hussein Obama are going to play in the middle east? Can Al Queda really claim the US is a nasty uni-culture lead by infidels? It doesn't matter that Obama is a Christian... |

b) ... because Iran has such reasonable leaders c) ... nothing more nasty to a muslim than a muslim converted to a christian -----Added 26/10/2008 at 10 : 00 : 44----- Quote:

JBX... we are just going to have to disagree on this.

The issue is if the US should act to take out Bin Laden if the intel is compelling as to his location and if the Pakistanis are not willing to act. I think you know that. You probably also know how we propped up the undemocratic Mushariff regime for years with little or no support. But on the broader issue, both the US voters and our foreign allies want to see a more balanced foreign policy approach with a greater reliance on diplomacy with less belligerency. Thats not to say that the military option should ever been taken off the table. Most former secretaries of state support it.....the current secy of defense supports it and most foreign policy experts support it. There is a reason why most of our allies would like to see an Obama presidency. At the U.N., Many Hope for an Obama Win Nicholas Burns, who was Bush's undersecretary of state for political affairs, also prefers Obama's approach to foreign policy and talking with adversaries. We Should Talk to Our Enemies So....the only ones who believe McCain has a better approach to foreign policy are the neo-cons who put us in this mess in the first place....except for Ken Adelman who thinks McCain's temperament and judgement make him unsuitable to be president. |

Since Obama's father was Muslim, according to sharia (Islamic law) and the Hadith (sayings of the prophet Muhammad), Obama is considered to be a murtad fitri apostate. There are two types of apostates according to Islam. The first type is called murtad milli, one who converted to Islam and later renounced the faith. The second, and considered most egregious, type is murtad fitri. It refers to a person born of a Muslim father who renounces his birthright. The later is often addressed by death sentence. I don't believe Obama was or is a practicing Muslim, but some folks will make something of it (political or religious). |

Your characterization of "Obama's credentials" came right out of an article by Edward Luttwak, a right wing military strategist...not a scholar of Islam. It was widely refuted by Muslim scholars. The bottom lin is that “Barack Obama never accepted or practiced Islam as an adult (which would be age 15 in Islamic law) and therefore according to classical Islamic law cannot be an apostate. |

Of course if he were Muslim, it would be just fine. I suspect we'll get a Muslim president before we get an atheist. |
Why are we even discussing this?
By dissecting this issue we are only serving to give weight to things they say. Sure they may have been lying, or perhaps Bin Laden has decided he really does like John McCain. Is that in any way relevant? |
i look forward to the time when saying someone is or might be muslim is no longer a kind of jingo-slur.

Hmm, funny because both my father-in-law and my husband, ACTUAL Arabs (unlike Obama), were born to Muslim fathers IN the Middle East (nowhere near American soil), and both of them are atheists and have spent the majority of their lives in Lebanon (where there are plenty of Muslim scholars and religious experts who know more than any of us do about the subject, I'm quite sure), and their lives have never even remotely been in danger as a result of their atheism. We also have two very good friends of Pakistani descent, born and bred in the West, with Muslim fathers... they're even Muslims themselves, though they don't take it very seriously, and they get drunk with us and are quite willing to joke about the crazy adherents of their religion. They live essentially secular lives. Do you think their lives have been threatened as a result? Surprise surprise, NO! Death sentence, my ass. How many Muslims do you actually know, Otto? And, as others have already asked (and which I'd like for you to answer), why is this even discussion-worthy material? |
