The Democratic Primary!

So, who are you gonna support. and why.

personnally, i dont give a damn as long as they can kick gwb outta the office.

i like howard dean, most of his platform at least. (except the defense spending part). he seems pretty moderate and should put up a good challenge.

anyway, who are you gonna support in the primary?

Downtownat10 06-28-2003 01:26 PM

Honestly I have to say I plan to support John Edwards. I do agree with almost all of Dean's platform, but to be honest, I'm afraid he might be too liberal to get enough turnkey votes. One of the best examples of this is his stance on Civil Unions (sane sex marriages), since the religious right and redneck votes are against anything homosexual. Of course, Edwards is a trial lawyer, and they are universally hated, so I'm not sure who will actually get it. But, knowing all platforms, I would say we would be best off with either Edwards or Dean, despite their few shortcomings.

Of course, they both bombed terribly on Meet The Press, and that is what the true political bookmakers are looking at.

And yes, anything to get Bush out of office. He's not as bad as some would like you to believe, but we DO NOT need another four years of it.

Kerry. An honest-to-god war hero with a social conscience. Unfortunately it didn't work for McCain (I voted for him too...).

who voted for sharpton?

I can only hope the Sharpton vote was a big joke. There are more than a million reasons why someone shouldn't vote for Sharpton, and there are even more reasons why a vote in the Demo Primary would mean a certain Bush victory. I pity anyone who does not understand that.

Well, after looking at the choices and the individual candidates, unlesss some drastic change takes place befoer the election, I'm going to vote for George W. Bush. The Democrats have not yet fielded a single candidate that I could support or one that has an even slim chance of unseating an incumbent president. Unseating one that is as popular as Bush at this time is an impossibility - any further success in the Middle East only solidifies his position and strength. After looking at the votes in your poll at this time the majority of you feel exactly the same way - a basically unknown governor from way up north, that no one other than a few people ever heard of before, is way ahead of all the nationally known Democratic Party candidates.

and i heard that bush is goin to raise 2x what he raised last time.

he's gonna BLOW us outta the water, unless........ (somebody help me out here!)

I voted for Mosley-Braun mainly because if she wins the primary, Bush wins the election. She was one of the senators from my state, and I thought she was a joke then.

I hate to inform all you Democrats, but none of these candidates has much of a chance (at least as it stands now). Dean is too liberal, plus he pissed off a lot of military folk when he was on Meet the Press. Kerry keeps trying to be called JFK, which is disrespectful to a lot of democrats. Lieberman lost the last election and people don't like losers.

I'd go on, but it seems pointless.

Sadly, this is pretty true. Dean seemed like one of the best bets on some levels, but Meet The Press was a huge disaster. Also, Dean is a bit too liberal for the conservative Dems (I know, oxymoron, but they exist), so he doesn't have a big enough following. Like I mentioned before, I think John Edwards would make a good president, but it would never happen. He has a good stance on a lot of issues, and he actually is a really down-to-earth person (met him at a fundraiser for his Senate campaign), but with the less-than-wonderful stigma that comes from being a Lawyer, especially a personal-injury lawyer, he would never get elected.

My only hope is that people will see the futility of third-party candidates. I've said it a million times, and sorry if it offends some people, but a third party candidate does not have the ability to win these days, and a vote cast for a third-party candidate is a vote NOT cast for Bush's competitor.

As it stands right now, no Democrats appear to have a chance against President Bush, but the election isn't being held in the next few days.

In 1992, the top challengers appeared to be Mario Cuomo and Paul Tsongas. Of course, the "distinguished" Gov. of Arkansas charged to the front and went on to win the nomination and the Presidential election.

Certain things will have to happen for another upset like in 1992, but it can happen.

Many Americans are questioning the honesty of the administration based on doubts about the validity of claims of WMD. The ecomony still isn't great, so if the Democrats could organize (I know....a big IF) one of the challengers could actually have a chance.

Too many if's to think it's likely, but there's still a year to go--things could change.

I can't agree more! 'W' and the rest of the Republicans should kiss Nader's ass for running in 2000. If it weren't for the Green Party taking votes away from Gore, the 'idiot son' would probably still be in Texas clearing up space on Death Row for more 'executionables' to enjoy.

Well sure, Corporate-America has got a winner, as far as their agenda is concerned.

My unfounded belief is that the Republicans discretely allocated funds for the Green Party as a shrewd investment. Thus, guaranteeing Nader the exposure needed so that would-be votes for Gore would then go to Nader, favoring ‘W’s bid for office, just a prime example of the unethical political strategy of the Republican Party.

For all you conservatives ready to pounce, read, I said 'unfounded', but never the less, quite possible and in my opinion, most likely!

...minority leaders organize the minority-vote. I believe that if most minorities voted, it would force the Republican Party to change its ideology.

I also support Dean. I agree with his concern for balancing the national budget, reducing its debt and his stance on 'W's war. I feel that the 'gun control' issue is moot and the fact that the NRA chapter in Vermont once endorsed Dean will have the back-woods, redneck republicans not worrying that their guns will be taken from them. Thus, they won't be so eager to drive into town and vote. Gun control, as we all know, was an issue that added to Gore's political demise. I also believe Dean has the ability to organize the democrats' agenda and restore our great nation's fundamental principles of decency, responsibility, freedom, mutual respect and most of all our credibility. No easy task considering the damage done by 'W' in such short time. I think Dean’s foreign policy along with his plan on homeland security and defense spending are well thought out and substantial enough to protect us from the increased threat levels from terrorism that 'W's clumsy and arrogant foreign policy incurred.

Likewise, If Dean should fail to win the Party's nomination for president, I too will support the candidate who has the best chance to replace the incumbent.
