Economic stimulus? I misunderstood stimulus and was going to spend mine on liquor and prostitutes.

Some people have theirs already and others are on the way based on social security numbers. I'd check the IRS web site for the whole poop.

Economic stimulus = giving a balloon to a person who's drowning

Shows good intention, but not what is needed.

I heard that we may have borrowed the money from the Chinese to fund the stimulus payments. If that's true, I absolutely want the government managing my health care and retirement ASAP!

I believe a married couple can get up to $1200 plus $300 for child credits. I'm not sure. I believe a single person is eligible for $600. We haven't seen ours yet. We'll just apply to the boat and SUV gas tank to go somewhere for Memorial Day Weekend

Alcohol's a depressant. Spend it on cigarettes.

No a good intention from Bush would have been a tax holiday where singles making 20,000 or under, married couples making 35,000 or under and families based on number of children making under 100,000 were given total tax forgiveness and 100% of all income taxes paid back.

AND/OR.... a forgiveness on student loan payback for this year, and that includes no interest....

AND/OR.... opening small business loans with extremely low interest rates....

AND/OR..... helping homeowners by giving those in trouble low interest loans that they can pay off their ARMS with....

That would have done something.... anything else is just a waste of money and too little too late in this economy.

The government wants to help, set up these programs and get them running.

The US Government doesn't borrow money from anyone but itself. Don't listen to the tin-foilers out there.

We just pay interest on the $2.5 TRILLION in treasury securities held by Japan, China, OPEC, etc

China holds a terrible amount of US treasury notes and dollars. This is the danger.

True... but for them to take actions to injure our economy, they would essentially be cutting their nose off to spite their face. Their manufacturing and export economy is extremely dependent on U.S. (and western) consumption. If we fall, many others fall. China would suffer greatly... at least for now.

Our shortage of domestic currency is also unsettling. I believe most U.S. dollars are held by foreign corporations and governments.

Sorry this has gotten off topic ... back to stimulus checks.

I got mine a few weeks ago. $600 right in the bank account. Saving it for a PS3. My wife got hers too ($600 also).

$1800. I paid a credit card off but there are several expenses that need to be taken care of using that money. I'm guessing when all is said and done it will reduce about $800 debt for me and about $1000 will be spent.

I'm not expecting anything... so when I end up with $300 or $600 or $10 million double-dollars... I'll be really surprised. I'm confused as to why I keep hearing different amounts despite the "Itz a chek fer six-hundrud oolahs!" mantra.

And then I'll go use the check to buy 13 gallons of gas and 5 pounds of lean ground beef and use the change for a Snickers Adventure Bar (the new Indiana Jones themed Snickers with the coconut). Golly gee wilikers those are good).

...

Hmmm, I was thinking about using my economic stimulus check to buy a rabid anti-gunner a handgun and range time.

Any takers?

I'm suddenly struck with the notion to be anti-gun.

Gold accented Taurus .38 snubbie with pink ivory grips? Gotcha.

...

I'd like to think a lot of "middle class white bread" Americans are going to absorb it into their waistbands (bills, groceries, gas-gas-gas) and pretend they didn't get anything special from the man... but I also see it as a way for people to get further into debt: "Check for $600?! Sweet... I can buy that $1000 TeeVee now!" This is bad.
