Repubs say NO to Mom?
Earlier this week. the House voted on one of their many innocuous resolutions...this time to honor mothers and mothers day:
Quote:
These guys vote for resolutions to call Gen Petaeus a great American patriot (when he was mocked by MoveOn.org) or to honor Charleton Heston (for his life achievements).or to recognize Christmas (as a statement against the secular war on Christmas)...but wont vote for mom? When asked why the GOP switched their votes, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said, “Oh, we just wanted to make sure that everyone was on record in support of Mother’s Day.” (Even though he was on record against Mother’s Day.) Those wacky repubs  ps....Happy Mothers Day, Mom! |

BTW, I know it was just a technical maneuver..but a stupid one. More: Republicans Vote Against Moms; No Word Yet on Puppies, Kittens |
what do you mean? I'm don't understand the roll call vote vs. voice vote.
|
The first vote was a voice vote and everyone present voted yes (412-0, 21 not present/not voting)
Then a Repub asked for a roll call vote and the second vote resulted (237-178) It was a procedural tactic by the Republicans with the intent of stalling the House from moving on to other more important business. |
dc don't play stupid, you know whats going on
|
Ustwo...I know why this Repub was one of those not voting :)

and people wonder why congress' rating is so fricking low
|
It's very comforting to know that not only was there a rationale behind this vote, but that it was a thoroughly valid one as well.

Wow...I never realized how much my high school mock congress is like the Real Congress.. motions to dismiss at every chance, recalls, and rethink votes because people weren't ready.
I got an A, I should be great material. //lame// |

And 44/54 co sponsors were Rep. You were correct DC..... It was a motion to reconsider and the Dems Tabled the motion.... I was misreading it a first I stand corrected. |
pan...it was me, not host.
And, the facts as I stated are correct. I know what it means to "Table a Motion to Reconsider". I dont think you do. The Washington Post does as well. |

On the other hand, it apparently doesn't take Congress much effort to get a low approval rating. All they have to do is nothing. |

I just thought it was funny that 178 Republicans wanted to reconsider their "aye" vote (what they really wanted to do was keep stalling so important votes would be postponed). From the Congressional Record (Tiahrt, is the republican who made the motion to reconsider the previous 412-0 vote) If it had been reversed, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly et all would have been all over it. Turn about is fair play :) |
Here's the bottom line ...
From now on, anyone that says "no" to their mom gets a big fat time out. :orly: And I mean it mister! don't look at me in that tone of voice |
New Republican message.
Moms are good....golf is bad Q Mr. President, you haven’t been golfing in recent years. Is that related to Iraq?wtf? Thats one hell of a sacrifice and show of solidarity! He should take a mulligan on that idiotic comment. |
2 words come to mind... Context and Proportion.
Mix those together with some intellectual honesty and you will never have to Quote:

Didn't you once say ... Quote:

The quote is a direct quote from Bush.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, it really is. I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be as — to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.Unlike your Obama quote, which was never said by Obama....the Bush quote is not a misrepresentation. It is from a WH transcript. The difference should be obvious. Out of context? Read the full interview of Bush. What context did I miss, other than not pasting in the full interview? |
OK dc I read the full interview...
Here's the full QA on the topic of golf. Quote:

Oh wait ... you support that guy. Pretty transparent. Regarding the Obama quote that was in my signature ... ever hear of satire? Sort of like News Update on SNL. But the other two "quotes" by that famous minitwo guy are absolutely word-for-word. Better get that letter in the mail to SNL before they "promulgate knowingly false or deceptive information" again. |
otto...I didnt deduce anything.
I simply offered my opinion that I thought it was an idiotic answer to a (stupid) question that ridicules the meaning of "sacrifice" to me.... Quote:
This is the latest in a series of statements by Bush, the first lady and Vice President Cheney illustrating how far removed they are from the consequences of the decision to go to war -- and stay at war. This is a guy who has spent more time on vacation than any recent president and has never attended a slain soldier's funeral. so yeah, sounds like bullshit to me. but, hey, you can disagree. |
