In the past month, animosity toward Obama has increased on white supremacist Web sites, said Mark Potok, director of the intelligence project at the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama.

He said that while he didn't know of any specific threats, ``the tone has begun to heat up.''

What do you think the odds are that one of these group will in fact try to take Obama out, either before the election or if elected after?

Security for Clinton -- codename ``Evergreen'' -- was tightened in January, when the Secret Service began requiring people at rallies to walk through scanners. On the candidate's plane, rows of agents separate her from the press corps.

Maybe Clinton's right and the press really does hate her. I mean if she needs several rows of agents between her and members of the press, I just saying.

Hrm. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be particularly surprised if some KKK nutjob tried to murder Obama. It wasn't that long ago when black men were lynched for being far less 'uppity' than daring to run for president. We'll probably never be completely free from the KKK element of society. :-(

I would like to know why the press is reporting the candidates' codenames. What earthly purpose does it serve? And how would they feel if some nut job was able to figure out how to get at one of the candidates as a result of having that information?

Based on how many attempts there have been on presidents there is a very likely chance if he wins someone will try. Every president has had at least one attempt in the last 35 years.

Luckily most are not well organized and usually fail, if they are smart they would do it prior to the election, would be a LOT easier on the campaign.

Really though its fear mongering at this point. One lone idiot is all it takes and it doesn't matter if its a 'hate crime' or someone looking to impress Jody Foster.
