Boycott the 2008 Beijing Olympics 抵制北京奥运会!
http://boycott2008olympics.start-a-petition.com
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/4/boy...ijing-olympics http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/B...eijingOlympics The invested interests spend so much national wealth in preparing the Olympic Games to blandish the international, launch so much propaganda about the 2008 Olympics to gloss over official corruption and social inequality! At the last National People's Congress session, China's Wen wowed discretionarily for the "Chinese's enthusiasm for the 2008 Olympics" - ignoring the voices of naysayers. Many feel the GDP comes from inflation. houses and food are all more expensive. China is falling into the capitalism seen in the 1800s, before the October Revolution. Most recent and upcoming college graduates from all over China squash in fancy metropolises, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc, while other provinces remain stagnant. Next spring, Chinese colleges and universities expect a record 4.95 million graduates, up 820,000 from this year. More than a million of them will wind up jobless, according to estimates. The proportion of people's salaries to GDP has been falling year after year. The M2/GDP ratio is unusually high, 200% in 2005.All money is the ruling group's money, all hardship is the mass's hardship.Fight ,or die! "Terrible idea. Please think of the athletes"? Some athletes, poor kids, just run a risk for money at the expense of life, health!Look forward to a better world. "We should be embracing China at every possible opportunity. What possible bad could come from befriending such a massive power"?Don't think China is going into capitalism at all.It is an officialdom-economy.And the Stalinists won't change its autarchy without pressure. No participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics! No watch the games! No buy the mementos! If you come to Beijing to see the games, wear a T-shirt bearing the logo above at least?

Hey, we're all afforded an equal opportunity, here in the states, as you probably all are, too in the PROC. Advantages of birth and of family wealth, and a double standard of accountability and access/influence are not enough to convince many here that there is anything to be concerned about. Our motto is, let the rich keep their money and power, it is not the role of government to intercede or to attempt to redistribute. Stick around, you can learn a lot from us....maybe defuse that alienated side that I think I detect in your tone..... |
There are very serious problems from the US to Russia and China. While I don't see a necessary correlation between the social and economic problems in China and the games, I do recognize that the problems cannot be ignored. As soon as we clean our house in the US, I'd be glad to help out there. To help you guys out first, though, would be massively hypocritical.
BTW, how does one pronounce your screen name, 殷敏鸿? Is it Yin Minhong? |

Back to the OP, while I am somewhat, that is to say relatively socialist by nature, I recognize that some governments use socialism—in China's case, Communism—to behave as an oligarchy. It's unfortunate, of course, but the reality in being a modern oligarchy is that corporatism is a necessity. Unfortunately, people like Marx and Shaw are ignored or used as tools to accumulate wealth, a bastardization of their philosophies.
If you, in China, are heading for a repeat of the Bolshevik Revolution (from the 1900s, not 1900s), I sincerly hope you're not headed for civil war. As much as I don't approve of the actions of the Chinese government, they are the enemy necessary to keep the idiots in charge of my country in check until a Democrat will take office, leaving alone the fact that a Chinese civil war would not be bloodless. If you are so inclined, I suggest peaceful and well televised civil disobedience. Take advantage of live TV whenever possible (something no longer available in Russia, not sure about China). Just as I as an American am responsible for my government, you as a Chinese citizen are responsible for yours. It's going to be a difficult journey, but if there's even a chance of success, I suspect it's worth your efforts. |

I don't care much about the Olympics and I'm not a big fan of PRoC's socialism, but I don't think politics should play a part in where Olympic games are held. The only requirements that a host nation should have to meet are the ability to provide proper facilities and a safe environment for both athletes and spectators.

Not to be "that guy", but I want to make sure I understand what you wrote. You mean that you don't think politics should play a role, right? |

From what I understand, those who boycott the Beijing Olympics might be doing their health a favor. I'm told it's so polluted there that many of the athletes are planning to spend as little time as possible there (doing their training elsewhere) because the inhaled particles interfere with respiration and cause mucus buildup. Talk about a "green" Olympics, eh? eeeeeewwwwwwwww...............

I was in Beijing in 2000, shortly before the Syndey games. I've never seen air so orange. I went for a run and only made it 2 miles before I had to stop and gasp for breath.
In the running boards that I lurk on, the Americans that are likely to qualify are all saying that they're going to stay outside the city to acclimate. No one is expecting particularly fast times, even though the course isn't going to be that challenging. |
Dudes, I think the OP is spamming.
Anyway, China's going through an adjustment period to adopt capitalism - it's not going to be overnight. Civil war? Ummm... are you serious? Not bloody likely! Pff.. China has internet access (some of it filtered) and pirated DVDs, you know - they're not living in a black hole. I can't help but read a little bit of misinformation on your part, Will... or at least presumption in recommending a method of rebellion to a country that has traditionally been VERY active and capable in populist movements. China does NOT need rescuing, certainly not by America - and TFP admin does not equal foreign affairs ambassador! I love that country. Too bad our Western education rarely covers that part of the world unless there was American military involvement. Regarding the pollution... it's gotten MUCH BETTER than it was 10 years ago. It's still pretty bad but the city will fix it in time. It's called industrialization. |

Yin's back! I've heard of officialdom government, but economy? Interesting. So that's a type of feudalist economy?
|
Yin, here's your chance to actually make a discussion. That's what this board is about. If you want to discuss something, please do so, but so far your posts have been borderline spam.
|
I love China, great country. Very deserving of the Games although the polution will be rough on the endurance athletes.
|
Boycotting the Olympic Games is never a good idea. And, as past history (1956, 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1984) has shown...is ineffective, from a political standpoint, and affects no one except the athletes.
It's just bad form. |
