Robin Williams - The Plan!

http://www.43things.com/entries/view/1014524

The Plan!

Robin Williams, wearing a shirt that says “I love New York” in Arabic.

You gotta love Robin Williams…...
Even if he’s nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams’ plan…

(Hard to argue with this logic!)

“I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here’s one plan.”

1) “The US will apologize to the world for our “interference” in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those “good ole boys”, we will never “interfere” again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don’t want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We’ll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They’re illegal!!! France will welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don’t like it there, change it yourself and don’t hide here. Asylum would never be available
to anyone. We don’t need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign “students” over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don’t attend classes, they get a “D” and it’s back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort
to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don’t like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not “interfere.” They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given
to the army. The people who need
it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don’t need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us “Ugly Americans” any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH…learn it..or LEAVE…Now, isn’t that a winner of a plan?

“The Statue of Liberty is no longer
saying “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.” She’s got a baseball bat and she’s yelling, ‘you want a piece of me?’ “

Ahh, too bad. That is one of the best things I have read in awhile. Too bad no politician has any guts or balls to actually say this.

It's funny how the thing least likely to be done by idiot politicians is actually the best thing that can be done. If we were to do this today, we'd be beloved by tomorrow. I absolutely guarantee it.

Sure, but the US would go into a depression the likes have no been seen since the beginning of the century. Almost all food would have to be imported from outside of the US, and prices would skyrocket.

Everyone who isn't an idiot already knows this.

Sounds like someone wants China to flourish.

Ignorance. Aid is a lot cheaper than war, and it can help to forge strong friendships. It's a win win.

This is American: we don't fix our problems.

How about everyone just be a responsible adult and eat healthy and stop acting like a child?

In Europe most people are bi, tri or more lingual. What does that do? It helps communication. They don't take the "you're either with us, or you're with the foreigners" stance.

This clearly isn't Robin Williams because even his humor is way above this. He doesn't pander (except when he does his urban youth impression).

How about this: "Can someone hold this torch for a second? My arm is getting tired."

Yeah, I was pretty positive those words would not have come out of Robin Williams' mouth. To top it off, I think I've seen this before (not attributed to him).

And you'd be wrong. People want us interfering...they just want us interfering in their favor. For one thing, if we were to pull out of Asia, the area would heat up REAL quick because a lot of countries are very worried about China. American hegemony, for all the bad that comes of it, is also a very important factor in global politics.

I did know he gave the "new" Statue of Liberty quote. I have seen that we have the DVD.

There are some very very good ideas in this plan, but other than the "new" quote"...... not Robin Williams.

I find it funny how people will complain that Hollywood speaks out, but will use quotes that serve their purpose.

This is in no way directed at Troit because I've never seen Troit say much at all politically.

Actually that's the only part of the whole diatribe that IS a Robin Williams quote.

I would not be necessarily wrong. Just because we've not seen an America that is mature enough to allow other places to exist in peace in a while hardly means that it's a bad thing. Progress is not always positive, after all. I would venture to say that a majority of major world conflicts in the past 100 years are a direct result of interference or deliberate influence by a power, such as the US, UK, or former USSR.

Regarding conflicts as the result of US/USSR interference, you're right that there are many. But you're missing the point if you think what I'm talking about has anything to do with America (not) allowing other places to exist in peace. As I alluded to in my previous post, if America were to become fully uninvolved in Asia-Pacific, the region would likely devolve into war in a fairly short period of time. This doesn't mean that America is currently using its hegemonic power wisely, or even that it uses it wisely more often than not, but it does mean that the presence of an American hegemony is an important factor not only in terms of American interests, but in terms of the region's interests as well. After all, the whole point of hegemony is that it involves a certain degree of consent from the subordinate group(s). You're mistaking the Bush administration's lack of understanding the importance of soft power (Rumsfeld, after all, has flat-out stated, "I don’t know what [soft power] means") as meaning all American power is bad. Rather, like it or not, due to America's position in the world - both literally and figuratively - we now have a lot of responsibility, and the Bush administrations inability to live up to that responsibility does not automatically mean that we should, as a whole, not have it. It just means we need to think more carefully about who we elect to be in charge of it.

I confess that I am in an exceedingly cranky mood, but I wonder why spam email makes it to this forum. This was sent to me well over a month ago, and snopes had it debunked back then. No offense troit, but it takes very little effort to check crap like this and the few minutes spent can save you some embarassment.
