The Karl Rove Thread....

We would be remiss as a politics forum if we allowed ourselves to neglect one of the main players in American Politics. Thus I propose we create a compilation of the many accomplishments of this "Man behind the scenes".

Quote:
Simpson said in the affidavit that Republican operative Bill Canary told her and others in a telephone conference call that he had spoken with Rove, referred to in the document as "Karl," and had been assured the Justice Department was pursuing Siegelman.

Simpson said that Riley's son, Rob Riley, asked about Siegelman being a problem in the future, and that Canary said "not to worry about Don Siegelman that 'his girls would take care of him.'"

The affidavit says Canary identified "his girls" as his wife, Leura Canary, the U.S. attorney in Montgomery; and Alice Martin, the U.S. attorney in Birmingham.

"Rob Riley then asked if he was sure 'these girls' could take care of Don Siegelman and William 'Bill' Canary told him not to worry that he had already gotten it worked out with Karl and Karl had spoken with the Department of Justice and the Department of Justice was already pursuing Don Siegelman," the affidavit said.

Rover has served as a mentor to Bush and helped him get elected President.

Quote:
Many Washington insiders believe that the strength of the Bush machine lies not in its leader but in Karl Rove, the man who picked Bush to run for Governor of Texas, tutored him on the workings of government, and ran brilliant yet brutal campaigns that would eventually sweep Bush into the Presidency.

OP has little content, no context, and is accordingly borderline incoherent. Please beef it up or I'll have to close.

It is relatively apparent, that Mr. Rove has been a very important part of the current direction we see this republican party taking. Equally apparent to many is the "less than Ideal" result the direction seems to be heading. This thread is meant as a way to expose Mr. Rove, and by extention those that use his "Skills" to undermine honesty in our political system.
Is that clear enough?

Yup. Thanks tecoyah.

I think Ace's approach is also interesting, and I'll try to add to it later. For better or worse, Karl Rove is also probably responsible for the successes of the GOP over the last 8 years. Understanding that means granting at least a grudging respect for the strategic and tactical sense he has shown.

Agreed...the man is a genius of manipulation, and if he seemed to be making America stronger and healthier I would be supportive and proud, rather than upset and worried.

Let's add Karl Rove's private email system within the White House to circumvent the legal requirement to retain all documents. Sadly, Rove's emails have disappeared that might shed light on his involvement with the US Attorney firings and voter caging.

Happily, Greg Palast caught several hundred of them and is appearing before Congress.

He may be responsible for Dubya's success, but Tom Delay was the GOP's money man.

Tom Delay was the GOP's money man?! He was a small town Texas hustler that only funneled money for the GOP and was too greedy not to be caught. He was never anything but a bit player, and the true money men are safely distanced from him.

Rove's latest "stratgic and tactical" program resulted in another high level person in the Bush administration found guilty of breaking the law:
Quote:
The Office of Special Counsel confirmed that it delivered to President Bush today its investigative report concluding General Services Administration chief Lurita Doan violated the law that limits political activity in federal agencies, leaving Doan's future in the hands of the White House.

A spokesman for the Office of Special Counsel, the agency that investigates alleged Hatch Act violations, confirmed that the report was sent to the White House, but would not provide details.

OSC's investigation focused on Doan's role in a Jan. 26 meeting at GSA headquarters, where Scott Jennings, special assistant to the president and a deputy of political adviser Karl Rove, showed a 28-slide PowerPoint presentation to more than 30 GSA political appointees that analyzed the results of the 2006 midterm election and prospects for the 2008 elections.

The OSC concluded Doan violated the Hatch Act when she asked at the conclusion of the meeting how the agency could help Republican candidates. Doan's counsel has argued that the investigation was not conducted objectively and a stigma of impropriety overshadows the case.

I do give Rove credit for being wise enough to keep himself one step removed from the implementation of his many questionable ."stratgic and tactical" programs....but the fall guys are mounting....Libby, Goodling, Doan...

The Rove-Abramoff connections may be exposed next.....if the House Govt Oversight Committee gives immunity to Susan Ralston, a former assistant to both Rove and Abramoff.

The long awaited testimony of Susan Ralston, employed first by Abramoff and then by Rove, is getting a bit of press. Waxman released her testimony to the public, but I have yet to find it. I doubt anyone here will be surprised that she identified Rove as having violated the Hatch Act.

Rove Aide Details Broad Political Abuses
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t | Report

Wednesday 20 June 2007

In January 2002, at a retreat in West Virginia, Karl Rove gave a PowerPoint presentation to at least 50 managers at the Department of the Interior to discuss polling data, and emphasized the importance of getting Oregon Senator Gordon Smith, a Republican, reelected that year.

The way to get Smith reelected to another term, Rove reportedly told the Interior Department officials, would come via the agency's support of a highly controversial measure: diverting water from the Klamath River Basin to farms in the area that were experiencing unusually dry conditions, thereby supporting the GOP's agricultural base.

Details of Rove's involvement in influencing the Interior Department to reverse its policies with regard to the Klamath River basin have been previously reported. But questions about why a political operative like Rove was influencing agricultural and environmental policy decisions, possibly in violation of the law, and whether he pressured cabinet officials to reverse policy to get Republicans reelected were raised again last month during a sworn deposition Rove's former executive assistant, Susan Ralston, gave to Congressional investigators probing Rove's role in the US attorney scandal and his and other White House officials connections with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

A transcript of Ralston's deposition was released on Monday by Congressman Henry Waxman, the Democratic chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

...snip
The article comments on the salmon fish kill that resulted from Rove's machinations in getting a Republican reelected. This has done serious long term damage to the Pacific Northwest economy, not to mention the survival of the wild Coho.
