illegal claiming sanctuary
not sure if this should be in politics, if not then mods can move it.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,209442,00.html CHICAGO — Immigration enforcement officers do not plan to enter a church where a single mother sought sanctuary rather than submit to deportation to Mexico, a government official said Friday. But Elvira Arellano, 31, and her supporters say only a stay of deportation will ensure that she and her 7-year-old son, an American citizen, are not forcibly removed from the Adalberto United Methodist Church. "The situation doesn't change," Arellano said in Spanish. Arellano has been living in the church since Tuesday, when she was supposed to surrender to authorities for deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials had said they would apprehend Arellano at a time and place "of their choosing" and that nothing prevented them from going into the church. But on Friday, a government official close to the case said immigration agents have decided against entering the church to remove Arellano. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because it is against ICE policy to discuss operational matters, said the Arellano case carries "no more priority than any of the other 500,000 fugitives nationally." I know you all think i'm paranoid, but doesn't that number strike anyone else as way too high to feel comfortable about? |
If they are referring to illegal immigrints from Mexico, then that number is seriously lacking.

no doubt, but I believe that the keyword is 'fugitives', not 'undocumented'. Fugitives implies that they are criminals wanted by law enforcement, does it not?

I do however agree with a church being sanctuary. They always have been and should always be. As much as I believe criminals (and yes illegal aliens are criminals) should be brought to justice, but had they stormed the church that would be a far worse crime. |

We've spent billions.....and ramped the effort up, beginning five years ago, to find a 6' 4" kidney patient who is "on the run"....with five wives and sixteen kids. We put a $25 million reward, and a $2 million ALPA reward, on top of that, on this guy's head....and to date, no luck. So, we'll continue to chase down our #1 prority, and then work our way down the list. IMO, we're running a "tight ship", domestically. Louisiana is in the lead, but New York, considering that it is nearly half the size of Texas, has some pretty pathetic numbers. We'll get 'em.....rest assured ! |
My question in the matter is why the same attitude didn't prevail at Waco, or Ruby Ridge, or with Elian Gonzalez.
The answer would seem to be that Janet Reno had way too much testosterone. |
