Okay, here goes. (ducks)

Christopher nee Ronald Walken, 62, legendary movie star and SNL host, is running for President in 2008. Link

I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, I keep expecting someone to say "Haha, fooled you!"... but on the other, I'm strangely interested. Why the hell not Christopher Walken? Who else? At least he's not trying to affiliate with either stupid fucking political party. So far I agree with the stances he's posed:

The War in Iraq:

My top priority will be to stabilize Iraq under this international force and end our occupation."

Campaign Finance Reform:
"I believe that campaign finance is a very tough issue, with good points on both sides; but I feel, as a wealthy American, that I should have no more say than even the least fortunate American citizen. Free speech in politics is about the voices of all those who support you, not who supports you with the biggest voice."

Military Funding:
"I am a huge supporter of the military. I have always thought of them as our guardians, and when our guardians are making less than the poverty line, and children are suffering because their parents decided to join the military, well, I get very upset. I feel that instead of sending billions to the Pentagon's pet projects, it should go to the troops."

Abortion Rights:
"I believe in the American family. I believe that every child deserves a loving home with parents who can afford to raise and care for them. Every woman has the right to have a child when she is ready, and I believe her government has no right to force a child upon her when she is not."

Stem Cell Research:
"I'd met Chris Reeve several times before he died, and after having met him it is tough to be against [stem cell research]. I am for human knowledge and expansion of human life. If stem cells are one way to do that, I cannot support legislation to restrict this potentially life-saving research."

So: complete joke, or possibly worth consideration? After reading dksuddeth's extensive posts on gun control laws, I don't know that his stance on that is well-enough defined or researched. Not that I necessarily agree with everything DK says, he just makes a gal think!

I'm withholding judgement until he starts sounding really smart or really stupid. So far, he's not any worse than anyone else!

No, I don't fit in well with the Democratic Party. I have backbone. I don't fit in well with Republicans either, since I have morals. I think they're both a bunch of crooked bastards.

well, I don't want to harass you about this too much, but there are plenty of Democrats with backbone (I'd like to think I'm one of them). What I try to do is find those Democrats who do have backbone and share my views and I support them individually, regardless of whether they're from my district/state or not. They are out there, it's just a matter of finding them.
