Ever try 3-D photography?

I used to love viewmasters! But they're pretty much history now.

You can make your own 3-D photos. Just focus on the subject, take the shot, move over a few inches and take a second shot.

Next, you need a viewer. There are many available. These hold 35mm slides.

These are made for viewing stereo aerial photos, but work great for my purposes.

I tape the prints to a piece of paper board to keep them in proper postion. Only one pair will fit in portrait orientation, but two pair will fit in landscape orientation.

This type of viewer is not very good as their field of view is small

Stereo pairs can be found online and printed. A lot depends on the quality of the printer though.

Adding the 3rd dimension (depth) to your photos makes them much more enjoyable.

Try it. I hope you like it!

I've experimented with this a bit, even just taking the two photos, putting them side by side, and defocusing your eyes to make them converge works. Works with digital photography on a computer monitor too.

i talked to a 3D expert recently, if you merge two photo's together and get rid of the red channel in one, and the blue in the other one, then you can use the 3D glasses

they made a tri-pod mount that slides left and right three inchs, just for taking 3D stuff

A good friend of mine has produced a rig where he mounts 2 SLR's next to each other, angles slightly together. He sets one camera up as a master and the other as a slave so they fire at the same time, then uses a pair of slide viewers to show the results. This way he can take action shots and saves the effort of relocating the camera for each pic. I have to say the results are damned amazing! A lot of effort but definately worth it.

Is he manual focusing or autofocusing?

A buddy of mine and I were recently playing around with making color photo anaglyphs. Anaglyphs are the names of the pictures that you view with the red and blue "3d" glasses. He found a program on the net that would help make the pictures and compile them into a single picture. It involved creating layer masks of your photos and then processing them through this application, which would then create the proper red and blue lines in the picture to apply the varying degrees of depth. It actually worked ... .pretty well.

Stereoscopic 3d imaging, what you are doing with the two pictures side-by-side is pretty cool too and I've been meaning to try some of that out as well.

Thanks for reminding me!

Ever seen it in quicktime? It's super easy..

http://www.inisrael.com/3disrael/

They've used it to construct 3D videos of the Moon, too.. using all the still shots we have from one viewpoint.. smashed together in Quicktime..
