didn't take many pics cuz the sun was high & we had two crazy dogs in tow.
plus wore the wrong shoes for the wrong beach... blahblahblah anyway, maybe not the best pics... but i was there! made a new friend. passing through santa cruz on the way home: |

Ah La Esperanza. Good burritos and tacos there.
Nice shots of the coast. The wild beaches between Santa Cruz and Davenport are unknown to everybody but locals, surfers, and nudists. And Rainbows. The beach you were at used to be a favorite place for rainbows/hippies to crash. Maybe still is. |

Funny the things you learn from our left coast freaks. Different shoes for different beaches. Who'da thunk. Looks like hubby had the universal type though......
Nice pics bernie. Looks like a fine beach for a sunset as well as an afternoon stroll with the furrychildren. |

it's a giant rock. the tide was coming in, otherwise you can walk across sand & walk up the ridge of the rock. at the end furthest in the ocean, there's a 4-5 ft drop off that you can climb down. it's fun to sit there, listening to the waves pound & pulse the rock, feel the sea breeze spray upon you & spy the occassional little rainbow dancing across the waves below. tropicdriver: thanks! the dogs LOVE the beach for sure. Rodney: i'm so gonna hafta stop at La Esperanza next time we go past! nice to hear it's good eatin's. we haven't ever ventured into any of the well hidden beaches, but it's easy to see where they are by all the cars along hwy1! ok wait... a long time ago a friend & i stopped along the road & walked out through a field & down below was a beach full of nude men. not a woman in sight. i've never noticed nudity at greyhound though. usually just a very few people with dogs. this past sunday though there was 2 topless women, although from behind the one totally looked like a man! frontal view revealed otherwise. lol DennisMenace: @ your metrosexual shoe quip paddyjoe: for some reason i decided that my rubber gardening clogs would be ideal for the beach... boy! i got that one WRONG! actually they might be alright on a flat beach, but this one the sands slope in towards the water. it was enough of a chore walking barefoot, let alone attempting to keep those ridiculously floppy clogs on. and yeah, wish we could've hung around for the sunset... this time we didn't get to wander as far north as where they might have been due to the tide high & still coming in... so don't know if they still hang out / camp there or not... |

I really like the cliff edge and the waves rolling in - it really brought out the color of the ocean... light hit sand perfectly. Makes wish I was there right now
How do your dogs react to ocean? My dogs LOVE our pool, and unfortunately we are not close enough to an ocean to have them experience that yet. I'm curious to see what they'll do.

amonkie, our dogs LOVE LOVE LOVE the ocean. unfortunately, we couldn't allow them in the water at this particular beach, because the shores slopes & drop sharply with dangerous undercurrents. but when we go to the flat beach they have an absolute blast!!
the very first time they each got to play in the ocean, they were initially hesitant & leery, but once they saw hubby & i in the water, they were like oh! um, okay, we can get in. & then they were like omg weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! |

I've never thought that rock looked anything like a greyhound. Nice pictures though, bernadette. They sure do make me want to go to the beach! I too like the dog's eye view down the sand.
Whatever you do, don't go into the Bay Mission Market - that place is scary! La Esperanza is okay, although I seem to recall they had some scandal recently..maybe Rodney can enlighten us. Anyhow it wasn't about the food, the food is fine. Sabieng, next to it, is a good place to eat also. Another good place to go for that genuine Santa Cruz feel is the Food Bin right across Laurel Street from there. And there's Emily's Good Things to Eat bakery, although their coffee kind of sucks. Can you tell you were in my neighborhood? Santa Cruz is kind of the place to go for random nudity...we have laws here permitting it in fact. Topless or bottomless is okay in public. Speaking of hippies, years ago I was at Greyhound Rock beach for an annual Easter goat roast and magic mushroom party held by one of our popular local eateries. What a bizarre combination! |

yeah, it's a stretch of the imagination to get a greyhound image out of that rock! haha
i believe i did go into the Bay Mission Market once... several moons ago. isn't it a teeny grocery? i probably bought beer or sodas, but i distinctly remember buying a 99-cent christian decorated candle (for some reason!) i think we've bought some bread or something at Emily's once, too. usually we're just blowing through on our way to the coast. rarely stop anywhere. we did used to fairly often eat at Mona Lisa's, which was the craziest name ever for a mexican restaurant if you ask me. but it's long ago been renamed & we haven't gone back since. omigosh! that does sound like an insanely bizarre party!! but i can totally envision it in santa cruz. and heck! next time we blow through that part of town, maybe we can meet up with ya for a cup of coffee (not at Emily's haha) or a brew or whatevs...? |
