couple frog pics, need your help

Would like to know which you like better. Here's my analysis: I like the composition in the first one better, but it looks harsh, almost as if I had used a flash. What do you all think?

I don't think that the first one looks too bad. Nice focus and good contrast. A keeper.

First one. It would really be cool if you could just crop in on the eye. There is so much detail in his eye.

Nice detail Shpoop!

I definetly like the first one better.

I hope you don't mind but I did a little photoshopping to it to try to remove the reflections in the frog's eyes. If you didn't use a flash, there must have been some kind of bright light behind you... Anyway, check it out:

I would have to agree that the composition in the first one is really interesting. The only thing I noticed was the glare on the eyeball there, as someone above already mentioned ...

Really wicked detail! I never knew how cool a frog's eyeball was. How/where did you take these?

Magpie0001 04-24-2005 01:21 PM

The first one is spectacular. I quite like the black space it makes for a good contrast.

Shpoop 04-24-2005 02:12 PM

Thanks guys. Bolted-down, I noticed the exact same thing and it pissed me off...I spent quite a bit of time trying to fix it, but I could not...still have a lot to learn on the old photoshop. Thank you for doing what I could not.

Took them in my yard, found him in a flower pot, and the sun was behind us shining on his eye. I as well never knew how awesome a frog's eye was. I can't wait until I get a real macro lens and find this guy again...I cannot imagine how cool a really detailed shot of the eye the size of a screen would look.

wicked shots man.........the detail in his eye is just amazing.

great work.

Could you do me a favour & tell me how you removed the shine? Theres no need to give me a step by step as Im pretty familiar with photoshop.

Pleeeeeeeeeeze!

I have a feeling he did what I tried, just with a lot more dexterity: a little bit of dodging, a little bit of cloning, and a little bit of actually paintbrushing some of the black lines in. Am I right?

BoltedDown 04-25-2005 05:35 AM

I mostly used the clone stamp tool. After that, a little paintbrushing to match up the colors.

BTW, the server where I have my gallery isn't very dependable, so it goes down from time to time.

I think close-ups are so cool. The detail you never really see is brought out with a photograph. Great Pix
