Listening to the Skies
I know, I know...I leave more comments than posts lately. Lots going on at casa de juju (and ms. juju is doing well). So here's a photo I took last June, I believe. I like the sparse look of this photo: wide open sky, stable front image, some kind of technological connection (the antenna) to link them together... The Holga captured that dreamy feel of a sky full of clouds, and the endless possibilities therein. Hope you like it.

Nice job juju. Happy to see you're still firing your Holga. I'm impressed at the beautiful saturation and contrast for that plastic lens. I usually shoot b&w in mine, so tell me, what film did you use for this shot? Let me ask one more thing, ever shoot any slide film in your Holga? (I need to work off of your experiments.. ) Good stuff, you need to scan some more for us.
Glad to hear Mrs. juju is doing ok. |

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. Withdrawals from my stuff? What a nice thing to say! Thanks.
Paddyjoe: these were taken with slide film. I thought it was kind of a risky experiment: film that needs carefully calculated shots, and a camera that blows that notion all to hell. I really only got a few shots off of the roll where everything somehow came together. It was Kodak Ektachrome 400 EPL. Maybe some low-key shots would be better with that film on the Holga, or maybe I should have just shot out of the sun. Fun either way. You should try it. For color film I also tried some Kodak Portra 400. Now *that* was a good match when there was decent light. Omigosh are the colors good with that stuff. I'll dig out that roll and post a few. Here is another shot from the Ektrachrome roll: The quiet dignity of the Cascade Mountains. The photo is a little hot in the center, but that's how summer is sometimes... Beautiful man, just beautiful.
Slide film, I'll be damned. The red roof and blue sky is indeed rich. I have tried color film in my Holga before and wasn't nearly as impressed with the saturation. Juju....you are the man!!! You are alse spot on with your love of the Portra line. I've shot the whole line in my pro work for years, and won't change until they stop making it.(?) 400vc is the nicest film I've shot. Try a roll of 800 in your Holga, no problem with light then. Also to let you know, I just bought a modified Holga on E-bay. Two distinct aperatures and bulb capabilities, plus it comes with a cable release. I've yet to shoot it, but you'll be one of the first to see the results when I do. Who knows, maybe next, the Holgaroid! Nice lookin shot of the Cascades, kinda like a 50's travelogue. Gotta love the Holga! |

Many thanks for the props, pj my bro! These coming from you does, indeed, make my day. Thank you.
My scanner doesn't always give me the right colors, so I toiled for quite a while with the print in one hand and the mouse in my other hand. Then I'd ignore it for a few days to forget what was bothering me earlier. This is the closest a jpg will look to the print. (Incidentally, the guys at the photo shop always give me the over-the-glasses look when I ask for prints from the slides before even viewing Holga output...hahaha!) A modded Holga? Good job! I've checked a few of them out online at holgamods.com. A cable release would easily produce some fantastic photos. Wow! Have fun with that! I really want to see some long night shots with it. Finally, this is the last shot that made it out of the roll alive. |

JuJueye, that last picture is alive with color - I love how the angle makes the trees feel so much taller - makes me want to climb them!
