i just got a free vaccum, or geological core sample analization for dummies.
so for those who know what it is, i just got a free bagless vaccum cleaner through freecycle. for those who don't, a simple explaination: when people have stuff they don't need but don't necessarily want to throw away, they can post messages on localized bulletin boards. others respond and the giver passes on the goods. as it turned out, i was the only person who wrote complete sentences and didn't type in aolspeak, so the girl giving it away let me know the vaccum was mine, and that i need only come pick it up and empty out the filter. i zipped over, grabbed the vaccum, and drove home happy. when i got home, upon inital inspection, everything looked okay...
altogether a very nice vaccum considering the price... as i pulled out the filter assembly, i noticed it seemed to be pretty full... a little too full... so i prepated a trash can... and pulled out the filter itself. it was a work of art. it's like the surface of jupiter - there's even a bit of an eye... if you examine it closely, you can tell what season it was when they vaccumed. and so, a few shakes of the hand, and the concentrated muck fell off the filter and into the waiting can below. and after the dust settles, the filter is laid bare... and the leavings are left to get tossed. and so, cleaned out, i have a very nice bagless vaccum for absolutely nothing. happy christmas to me indeed.

heh. that's kinda gross & weird though that she didn't bother to empty the thing before giving it to you.
but then maybe she buys a new vacuum everytime the filters get full?

heh... she got a dyson for christmas, so this one is obsolete to her... and since someone's gonna come and get it and pay nothing for it, i could justify her not cleaning that muck out.

a simple google search for "freecycle" nets you this site: http://www.freecycle.org/ - you can find local freecycling groups from that mainsite. typically, they are yahoo groups, so if you don't already have one, you'll have to sign up for a yahoo account.
