Garibaldi Provincial Park

This is a pic taken with my Sony DSC S70 a couple of summers ago now, it was on the old boards before everything got lost, but I decided to revive it and repost it (sized down to 800x600 from 1600x1200)

It's a shot from Garibaldi Provincial Park, near Whistler, British Columbia.

That could be a postcard, though you'll need to get rid of the damn clouds

awesome photo... wow i sure wish i was there right now

id crop the photo a little tighter vertically to get rid of the rocks in the foreground and shorten the sky a tad...

Yeah, why do people always think clouds are bad? I think it just makes it look more realistic, unless it's obviously covering something nice up.

I like it, and the rocks at the bottom, gives the bottom a circuler feel, to go with the trianlges in the mountains...
nice countryside..

I personally like the effect of the clouds and rocks, the reflection it gives off the water, much fuller effect. That's a straight downsize of the original, as I said.

Also, with the rocks, it gives an idea of where you are, almost makes you feel like you're standing there instead of just staring at a picture.

IMHO the rocks add depth. The make the picture look 3d. I think if they were chopped out you might loose that feel.

those are valid points... definitely... my feeling is when i look at that photo (great photo btw) my eyes are first drawn straight to the rocks and they dont offer much value...

by cropping them out sure u might lose some depth but then viewers eyes would automatically be drawn to the mountains which is the key feature in the photo...

when editing photos, you can determine what your viewers eyes would be drawn to first and how they will look at your photo, from left to right etc etc..

viewers might not be aware that they have been set to look at a photo in the way that the photographer chooses... but it happens.

say for instance, the color red. it is very dominate and no matter what the image is, if there is something that is red in the background your eyes will be drawn to that item first and then scan the rest of the image. its a mind thing, red always attracts the eye first... try it some time, it really does work that way. i try to keep reds out of my images UNLESS the subject itself is to be red because with out the red in the background, i can predetermine what i want my viewer to focus on first....

Don't think you'd want to jump into that water, it's at the glacier level, so it's just above freezing temperatures. My hands went numb just rinsing in it.

Gorgeous. You did a great job of capturing the feeling of the place. All the elements (even the clouds) fit just right.

i think the rocks are alright but the sky is a bit too much, though i like the clouds they would be better if you could get them a little lighter, so they dont damper the shot.

Change the clouds and you'd have to alter the shadows they cast on the mountainside in the background. If you alter them or lighten them up, that means the sun angle has to change as well.

Told you it was a postcard. BTW - I was joking about the clouds. People who end up with piles of photos with no clouds have way too much time on the hands...
