Look what Frances did!
These are some pics I took at work of the east end of one of our packing houses after Frances. I kept forgetting my camera in the truck or I would have put these up sooner. You can't really see it that well in the pictures but that is a huge ass steel beam holding up the roof and its twisted and bent all to hell. Lucky the Bahamas slowed the storm down or the whole building would have been a pile of rubble.

wow. how old is that packing plant? it doesn't look like ancient.
it also doesn't look built to withstand powerful hurricanes. looks like a giant mobile home... kinda. sorta flimsy siding i mean. what kind of good are packed there? so, business is at a halt for the moment?

I think it was built in the 70s Bernie they didn't have building codes back then for hurricanes. I work for a citrus company and thats our commercial packing house. They pack fruit to go to stores and stuff. Mostly to Europe and Japan. The gift fruit house (where I work) was fine. They were saying they would have that building fixed by mid Dec or early Jan but who knows now cause we are getting another hurricane this weekend. (maybe new pics when the power comes back on from this one)

ha! i was guessing it looked about 30-ish yrs old.
sorry to hear about yet more hurricane disruption. geeze! y'all are getting hit so hard... we have earthquakes to contend with my way, but generally it's one big slam & then it's clean up time. y'all just keep getting slammed. so? what about the business & all the employees until the repairs are complete? the insurance people must be rubbing their hands together & foaming at the mouth with a evil twinkle in their eyes...

well the business has loss of business insurance (i dont think thats the right name but it covers income lost while the building is being fixed) and some of the key people are going to be brought over to the gift house for this season. Most of the employees are seasonal migrants so they wont get hired on this year.
