Hiking around
I decided to hike around in my own country this summer. Here are some pictures, starting off with a fjord of course :)

What makes it a bit special is that it's quarter past midnight, ie. way up north. http://img64.exs.cx/img64/9438/w13.jpg http://img64.exs.cx/img64/9436/w14.jpg http://img64.exs.cx/img64/315/w15.jpg The highest mountain in Norway. http://img64.exs.cx/img64/5336/w17.jpg |
Beautiful. I especially like the "frozen stream/waterfall" (I'm sure there's a better word for it) photos. I'll make it there someday; my wife is mostly Norwegian, and really wants to go.

Fantastic photos and scenery, i for one would love to do what you did.
Also yeah the glacier photo i was confused at first thinking wow what a cool photo of a river, then it hit me :D |
Absolutely stunning. As much as I don't like the cold, Norway's on my list of places to visit. Really nice photos. Thanks. :-)

DAMNIT! why am i here?! I wish i could just get done with college, make millions in a year, and then travel places like that the rest of my life. New Zealand, Norway, Antarctica, the list goes on and on. Sad thing is, ive already been to norway, on a cruise. It didnt give me anywhere near the exploratory need i have.

Where in Norway?
Gal, where in Norway did you go to take those photographs? I have Norwegian roots and I would like to take my family there some day.
Thanks, Norske |
Thanks for your comments! Even for a guy like me who's used to snow, the glaciers were awesome. Just so you get the scale of it: the black dot up to the left in the panorama is a group of 12 people :)
Starting from the top in Western Norway: Geirangerfjorden Besseggen Close to Geiranger Lom Ridderspranget Briksdalsbreen Briksdalsbreen The nex ones are from the north, the islands of Lofoten Sandstad Helvetestinden Ramberg Bunes Ramberg Reine Reine Glittertind Somewhere in Jotunheimen If you plan a trip to Norway I can highly reccomend the Lonely Planet guide. |
great photos!!!
very impressive. i can only see places like that in pictures since we dont have anything like that here in Texas (USA) abel. |
holy shiat..i wanna go to Norway now..that reminds me a lot of hiking in Gros Morne, Newfoundland

Little off topic, but what do you use for hiking gear?
|
Norway just got bumped to the top of my Places I Want To Go list. Amazing shots.
|
Nice to see a fellow country-man around here :)
Did you shoot these on film or digital? Excellent shot and excellent quality. I was actually planning to do just about the same trip as you did this summer, but I had to work :\. I'll do it next summer. |
I guess it is off topic, but since we don't have Tilted Outdoors..
I upgraded a lot of my hiking gear before this trip. My best purchase was the tent. It's a Norwegian tent (HelSport, Børgefjell Light 3Camp) . Very light, and the only 3 person tent I've seen that can actually fit 3 people. Lots of lines can be attached so it's pretty indestructible to wind. Clothes I keep as light as possible. I can't stand waterproof jackets and pants, since they get sweaty no matter how high tech they're suposed to be. I have two sets of cheapo, light polyester pants+jacket. If I get wet or cold I put on long underwear. Good underwear (mine're Devold, 2layered wool and synthetics) costs a lot, but it's definitely worth it. If I have a fleece sweater in addition to that I can be comfy in -20C. Let's see.. I have a fleece hat/turtleneck (SkiBum) and windproof gloves + thin gloves I can use as inner gloves or as is (from REI). Leather hiking boots and thin woolen socks beats any GoreTex when it comes to keeping dry, avoiding blisters and stinky feet. HelSport 85+30 liters backpack, Ajuingilak sleeping bag and inflatable mattress, silk liner for the sleeping bag (easy to wash and keeps the sleeping bag clean), Primus gas stove, MSR Blacklite aluminium pots and a telescopic fishing rod. For the longest hikes we packed a lot of pasta and freeze dried, just-add-water-ready-made meals. Alright, I'm probably boring you here :) Here are some pics of the tent: http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4084/z12.jpg http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4159/z13.jpg The entrance area. Good for cooking and backpacks. http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7750/z14.jpg The inner tent. Ventilation is important if (when) someone rips one off. |

amazing shots .. looks a bit like bits of NZ, only colder I think glaicers are funny things cos they look really small until you get something to give you perspective and scale |
Very nice pics...thanks for the post.
|
Great post gal. A visual feast.
|
Nice gear, and nice tent, I need to buy a new tent this year but I am looking at a solo tent now..
As for Rain jacket nicest I have had is a Marmot Precip.. |
