You have really captured what New Orleans is all about. It's old and run down, it smells like urine; but at the same time it's strikingly beautiful and very homey.

And etouffe! Holy crap is the food good in New Orleans. Etoufee is one of my favorite dishes. With that and with the shrimp po'boy, no place outside New Orleans has come close to matching the flavor.

The photos of the town at nite, along with the old buildings and the graveyard, to some extent, remind me a lot of Key West. Thanks for sharing.

powerclown 07-18-2004 06:53 AM

I have heard comparisons between NO and Key West before; I'd love to go to Key West sometime soon.
Indeed, people are very serious about their food in NO; it borders on the obsessive sometimes lol. I found the food overall to have very intense flavors, I didn't have a bad meal when I was there and I went to a different place each night.

damn dude............thanx for the little journey you took me on........

some sweet shots there,....i really liked the sculptures.

powerclown 07-21-2004 07:15 AM

Thanks for the kind words, flyman...

absorbentishe 07-21-2004 07:38 AM

Those are some sweet pix. I (vaguely) remember some of those places. I love visiting there, but don't think I'd like to live there. Both times I was there, great times were had!

losthellhound 07-21-2004 12:07 PM

Been there, and there, and there.. I even have pics of some of the same things from other angles.. crazy ;)

The doorman at Temptations tried to get me to go in.. He was really really pushy about it too.. Too bad I was only 19 at the time and had no urge to go in. Was good times..

frankx 07-21-2004 05:33 PM

Outstanding pics!!! Hope you enjoyed our town!

White Cluster 07-21-2004 09:53 PM

got a nice feel of the place...

I'm sure many people expected to see boobies in this thread......heh.

powerclown 07-22-2004 12:23 PM

I don't know if Id wanna live there myself...id go broke in no time on all the vice there lol. Plus it was 95 degrees and humid, you would literally walk a block and start sweating. Extremely hot!

Yeah the strip club hawkers are pretty aggressive. I even had to take them up on their offer once or twice. ;) I was pretty amazed at how fancy and ornate some of the clubs were. I got a free tour of the upstairs VIP rooms at one of the clubs...super plush and private.

Thanks franckx...i was very impressed with nola, hope to be back soon!

Sorry no boobs in this thread! It wasn't mardi gras unfortunately, so the girls on bourbon st. actually kept their shirts on dammit. And no cameras allowed in the strip clubs lol.

mystmarimatt 07-27-2004 09:40 AM

nifty! except that since i'm getting hungry, those pictures of food are making my stomach growl in anticipation of lunch, it looks sooo appetizing.

powerclown 07-28-2004 09:09 AM

Oh the food in NO is so good...i miss them ham sandwiches...

Those frogs were definitely getting their freak on - doing it froggy style lol!!! :D

Helpher811 07-31-2004 11:43 AM

Good Food Shots!!
Thanks!

abel 08-12-2004 11:04 AM

wow very cool... i will be back in NO next weekend!

i cant wait to try my camera out there...

NJFrank 08-20-2004 05:28 PM

EXcellent job.
Nawlins is one of my MOST fav places to spend a long weekend.

powerclown 08-20-2004 07:07 PM

Thanks folks...
For a big city atmosphere, I loved it there...hope to go back soon.
I felt so guilty about putting on so much weight there that I joined a gym when I got home, lol.

frankx 08-23-2004 04:41 PM

And they showed one of my favorite places to eat....The Pearl!!

This is at Cafe du Monde

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...b/f7d099ff.jpg
And if you turn to the right here you'll be headed toward the river walk mall.

A couple of cool places to eat if you ever go back are O'Henrys and the Camelia Grill. My sister goes to school at Tulane University, so I am down there pretty often

powerclown 09-22-2004 09:03 AM

Yep, that is Cafe du Monde, on Decatur St.

Couldn't agree more about the Camelia Grill:

The omelette was the best I've ever had, the flavor was outrageous. It must have had at least 1,000 calories lol. Even the buttered toast was great.

Aerobit 09-22-2004 10:14 AM

Wow I feel like ive been there now

ShaniFaye 09-22-2004 10:20 AM

great pics...I LOVE the spider sculpture thingy (ha ha Im just SO articulate)

I've always wanted to visit NO...did you visit any of the graveyards at nite?

powerclown 09-22-2004 10:41 AM

Thanks guys...
ShaniFaye: the spider thing was awesome, pictures just don't do it justice...
It was freaky enough walking around the cemetries during the day, no way I would have done it at night by myself lol. I guess there is a lot of crime that happens there because the place is so damn big, plus all the headstones block the view from the street.
On the bright side, they wouldn't have to go too far to bury you... ;)

abel 10-19-2004 06:42 AM

i know its late but oh well...

while we were in new orleans we took one of those haunted tours at night and they gave us a walk thru the french quarter and told many stories of what happened and where etc etc..

new orleans is the most haunted city in the US and after hearing most of those stories, i am not suprised.

the reason i bring this up is b/c of your shot of the st. louis cathedral. we were told that the park directly in front of the church was a large lot made up of sand and is the place were public executions were held on fridays. now this was late 1700s early 1800s so the executions they performed were very gruesome. in fact, the church would actually have alter boys break up trashy bricks with hammers etc so that they can bag them and sell to the public who were attending the stoning of a criminal. new orleans is built on marsh land so you couldnt just dig up your own rocks etc so the church had found a way to make money etc...

also since the exections were held on fridays, wedding cerimonies were held on saturdays so early saturday morning the same alter boys would go out into the sand lot and cover up all of the pools of blood left over from the day before with fresh sand etc etc...

pretty weird huh.

anyways.. just thought id share what i was told...

jbittenbender 10-22-2004 02:15 PM

Nice pics can't wait to go back again..

craven 10-23-2004 05:10 AM
