our place in the valley

Our 14 acres lie in a secluded valley.
The house is situated facing south.
We're surrounded by many deciduous, hardwood, fruitwood, pine, and spruce trees.
Our woods lie west and north.

Here's the house and buildings:

The view from behind the house up toward the north ridge:

A tree that speaks to me:

Looks like a really nice place to get out and howl at the moon, also. Looks really great.

you actually maintain a lawn? man, at our place out in the valley we got 3-4 fields pluss some moshpits and this little berg.

Fly 06-10-2004 03:45 PM

nice Art.......on the hunt for acreage myself.

beautiful place you got there.

ARTelevision 06-10-2004 04:51 PM

Thanks friends.
Yeah, funny thing about the lawn is when we were exurban, I disliked dealing with small lawn maintenance. Now, with a lawn area that runs 3 acres or so, I've only let as small portion grow to seed, frond, and wildflower. There's so much densely wooded acreage that keeping a few under control seems like a necessary effort - just to keep the woods at bay.

Heaven on Earth, Art.

You're a lucky man.

Thank you for sharing.

My tree requires rum or whiskey in the area to talk. Some really great conversations though. Great place Art, very nice!

Wow that is really nice! You are very lucky!

ARTelevision 06-11-2004 09:20 PM

Thanks. We do have a debt of gratitude and a bunch of financial debt as well as a result of our good fortune in procuring the place - heh.

wow...14 Acres...thats plenty of room to roam eh? That is one wicked looking tree in your props there Art. the branch or trunk wrapping around the tree looks like a huge snake, awsome!

bernadette 06-12-2004 08:54 AM

absolutely lovely, ART. looks so tranquil. congratulations on your newfound paradise.

i couldn't live there though, simply because i wouldn't want to take care of that much land. my parents keep up 3 acres of yard and i forget how many acres of woods. i'm amazed how they manage to do it.

i used to take small privot trees & twist, braid, tie loose loopy knots etc. while their limbs were still soft & pliable. they were really fun to watch them grow big like that. had two white alders that shared one branch. the one tree eventually grew around the adjoining limb from it's buddy tree. the birds loved to perch on it. alas we cut them down this summer... the alders were destroying our patio (planted too close). i was sad to lose that bird perch.

Thanks KellyC and bernadette.

There are so many dang trees around here - they're at this point uncountable. We are slowly getting to know them as individuals. And the oddities stand out first.

Yeah - a lot of land to take care of, true. Well, it makes you philosophical that you can't do everything and also it will all be here long after we're gone. We're just its current caretakers doing the best we can manage.

Art - what a gorgeous place. I would love to be surrounded by so much green beauty. It just looks so calm and natural. And I am especially interested in your favorite tree. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing these with us.
