Interesting collection of cacti you have there. So what exactly do you do? Are you a dev or a tester of some sort? Purely a guess due to the amount of devices in your little cabinet.

I'm a Sr. System Analyst for Symbol Technologies. Basically, that means I play with RF equipment. My function is end of the line support for wireless networks consisting of your basic backbone, extended to wireless Access Points (on the left) and then to the ruggedized handheld PocketPC terminal (on the right). I don't fix things like "why can't I sync my mail server to my PDA", rather I fix things like "Using a Bluesocket DHCP server instead of a standard Microsoft Server, the 8146 will broadcast the ACK back rather then direct it to the server." or "I need to create 3 vlans and do a wireless hop to another building across the street while using Kerberos and I can't seem to get from the Master AP to the Slave AP."
Yeah, basically I'm a fucking monkey. However, I'm only a few years away from not working for the "man" so I'll keep my chin up! I’m a cactus connoisseur if you will. I love Cacti and the cacti that you see are not store bought. I harvest them from grandfather cacti, seeds or cuttings. I’ll see if I can dig up some pictures of my back porch in San Jose. Obviously, I had to get rid of most of them moving to NY as they don’t handle low light and cold weather well. |

I really hoping you test PDAs or something... noone should have to use that many
Edit: Yeah... I just read your post, so I see how stupid this comment may seem now, lol

Thanks Art. I lived alone for a good long period in SJ and I had a large cacti collection at home as well as the ones you see at the office. Not to mention the large house plant collection...shit, they were my friends and I had to leave them behind. The big money plants that I couldn't bear to leave behind I brought with me via chartered moving truck. They are just now coming out of their shell from being locked in the back of a hot, dark trailer for a week and a half...now I'm trying to move again. Poor babies. I'm not going to put them through that again. This time I'll find them a green-thumb home.
Blah, blah, blah.. Too much information, huh ;-) Bern, I imagine I'll visit at some point in the future. I have too many frineds. Good healthy friends that are too fun to let lie. I'll take you up on that drink, you too sound like a cool person! |

Cacti Toast
You may be working "for the man" but at least the man lets you personalize your area a little bit. I can forsee some corporate weasel from our accounting department turning me in for wasting "precious company energy" by keeping lights on such a display. I lost a fish tank for that reason.
Here are a couple more cacti as a toast for when you stick it to the man! I think they are a bit overexposed. |
