Anyone like boats or ships that used to float?
 

Being partial to the ocean, I tend to have an eye for just about anything that can float and transport people. Anyone else enjoy this, too? Here's some photos from the island of Bimini. This boat was on the main drag up against some buildings. I had to stop and soak in the colors.

Man, I really like the second shot. It's got that "Man vs. Nature" feel to it. I would love to see more shots like these if you have some!

Oh yeah... I have 'boatloads' of photos of this wreck. It is up against the southwest iron shore of the island of Bimini and right next to a graveyard (which I captured, also). Give me a few and I'll put up a few more.

there's an old "concrete" ship sitting off the coast of one of the beaches just south of santa cruz.

i'll snap a pic the next time we're there walking our dogs. i've snapped a few of it before, but some are analog & lost in an album somewhere & i have no idea where i've stashed the digital ones. i'll just snap some more :D

I like looking at old wrecks there is somthing quite mystical about them, or is that just me?

I love pictures of wrecked and abandoned man-made things!

I saw some amazing banked, dead boats when in the Turks and Caicos area on one of those bird reserve things. I really wish I had had my camera. :(

I wonder if we could arrange a TFP GT and meet in Bimini and 17 of us (that's how many souls that Chalk's seaplane will hold) could spend the day taking photos of the wreck? It is just a 22 minute flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini.

wow, those are some great pics. I wish I could see something like that in person. I've read a lot about the caspian sea drying up, and all the ships there becoming landlocked. That'd be my next stop if I were really interested in shipwrecks.

TD, what equpiment do you use? Those pictures are amazing beyond recognition...

I have two cameras. My film camera that I took the shipwreck photos is an old Nikon 8008s with a Nikon 20mm lens. A very sweet lens that gives me lots of joy.

I've been playing with my digital for nearly 1/2 year, now, and the 8008s has been collecting dust. I bought a Nikon CoolPix 5700 that has one heck of a learning curve, but I am figuring it out. I love going out and shooting hundreds of photos, culling them down to just a few nice ones and not being out a dime for the photos. ;)

I was out on Sanibel and Captiva Island, yesterday, saying my goodbyes, for a while. Happened upon this scene and had to shoot a picture of the newest shipwreck out there. :D

yup, I too like the 2nd pick..
but i 'm partial towards any man vs nature shots.. where nature has once again proven victorious.
The first one is something i'd rather see on my wall, in a nice frame however.

A boat owner myself, the first one is just so ageless - makes me want to repaint it, slap some oars on and take it out. As for the last, I wonder what those guys told their wives or SOs about the boat :)

The shot was taken near lunch time and the building was painted pink. The last time I was in Bimini, someone put a white fence in front of the boat, I guess to protect it from tourist and others from sitting on the boat. The photo opportunity will never be the same, again, unless someone had a really wide angle lens and could get between the fence and the boat. The lens I used was a Nikon 20mm, so I think it would be tough to get the shot, nowadays, unfortunately. It's been nearly 2 1/2 years since I last saw that boat and it might not even be there anymore. Hope I'm wrong.

The Sapona
 

Tropic, here is my contribution to the collection. You probably recognize the Sapona from your trips to Bimini.

For those that don't know, the Sapona is a ship that served the US during WWI. It was constructed mainly out of concrete, wood and steel. The ship was sold by the military and was used for many purposes including a floating liquor warehouse during Prohibition, a nightclub and brothel. During WWII, Navy pilots used the ship for target practice. The ship ran aground in shallow water near Bimini in 1926. Today it is a cool shallow dive.
