CHALLENGE: Guess the Trite Saying
The object of this challenge is to:
1.) Create a photograph that suggests or implies a trite saying. For example: Opposites attract Like a tornado hit it Faster than a NY minute All your eggs in one basket Broad as it is long (Sorry, rules of the forum are no 3rd party photos) 2.) Post your photo in the thread, but do not reveal your trite saying. 3.) Let others post their guesses in the thread, as to what you have in mind by looking at your photo. Here is a reference for trite sayings. And another. If I find others or better ones, I will put those in, or you can post them, too. Ok, I will start us off: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/HG9B6978.jpg (Hopefully this challenge hasn't been done before here...I searched the photography forum before creating this one.) |
Like talking to a brick wall?
Like talking to a brick wall about the price of cement? I'll play along as soon as I get the chance to go shoot something. |
Manic_Skafe, you'll have to decipher my trite response to your guess from this image:
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/DSC_0208.jpg :D |
That would be "close, but no cigar". But I can't figure out the brick wall cliche yet.
|
Here is my trite response to redlemon's guess on the cigarette photo:
|
Bingo.
Bang your head against a brick wall? |
poppinjay got it right
|
how about another brick in the wall?
|
Ok, all of those were excellent guesses on the brick wall. Thanks for joining in!
Feel free to illustrate / use the trite phrases that weren't the right answer. Oops...can't use third party photography here. My bad.... |

Thanks, redlemon!
Ok, I found a comprehensive source for trite sayings and cliches, etc. here. HERE IS A NEW ONE Now...think really hard about this one. If it's obvious, it might not be the right one.... http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/IMG_0575.jpg |
I'll say, the hints at more photos within posts and replaced responses have me rightly confused at this point: thirdsun, has anyone correctly guessed your "old addage" yet, and if so, are they free to pick up from whence you left?
|
So sorry, Jetee...I had some 3rd party photos in there that had to be removed.
Poppinjay correctly guessed the brick wall: Bang your head against a brick wall. The newest one is now in post #11 Yes, Jetee, feel free to add MORE. |
Clarification: is that crabgrass, or coniferous needles?
Dried leaves? Base of sand or stone? |
Okay, thanks for clearing it up.
my guess shall be: "head over heels" I'm not very good at this, I'm afraid. I haven't clicked any of your resource banks yet, thirdsun, 'cause I wanted to see if I am "hip" with phrases. I don't think I am. |
Redlemon, it's very sparse grass over a base of sand that constitutes, for many in Florida, their yard. Usually it's sparse like this under pine trees.
|
hmmm...so would you be "out on a limb," then?
|
Jetée - Good guess. It does kind of look upside down.
CinnamonGirl - Ha! Even I didn't think of that. The phrase I am thinking of is shorter and more down to "earth". Here's a hint: the sparsity of the grass is a clue.... |
"the grass is always greener on the other side"
|
Getting closer. Think of synonyms for "earth"....
Or, the fact that there is "more" sand than grass.... It's often over-used in business, especially when you start a new job.... |
make hay while the sun shines?
|
"from the ground up"
|
There you go! I was hinting at the word "ground".
Ok, Jetée wins that one. Congratulations! |
Cool.
Do you have another? I'd host a round myself, but I as of yet not plunged into buying a digital camera (tally is now at 7 years and counting). |
|
Re #25:
"Better safe than sorry"? |
An excellent guess. Very close.
|
Safe and sound?
|
Yes! That's right!
|
|
right up your alley?
|
Yes! I guess maybe that one was way too easy....
 |
since my imagination isn't so great, i'll leave the floor open to someone else to post a picture.
