Startrails by stacking

I just learned a method of doing startrails with a stacking method. It's a way to take a long series of 30 second digital exposures and combine them. Dan Newton posted the instructions on his website: liquidinplastic.com

Here's my first attempt:

Great shot, I've been thinking about shooting star trails but never got around to it.

Mind explaining your technique?

Very nice. Night photography done right is always impressive.

Looks like an interesting technique I should try out. I am not sure if this is because of the small picture size, but the trails look kinda mechanical (zig-zag lines). Perhaps increasing the number of frames would help smooth the trails out if they appear at full-size.

Neat technique though!

That's awesome.

Thank you all for the kind words.

I'm just a student with this. It's only my second attempt. Check out the instructions at liquidinplastic.com. Dan was in the field with me on this one.

It is the resolution of the web posted shot. If you go to the Flickr page then you can look at the original size. It's not as good as my 8X10 print but the arcs don't look digitized.

I'm actually more of a film junkie but I wanted to learn this technique.

Here's my first attempt. It's at American Flats outside of Virginia City. It's an abandoned gold and silver mill.

Strobe painting with cheap plastic notebook covers for gels. If you look closely on the left side, my partner didn't wait until I was behind the column for one shot.

To the TS, that is a great pic. the color on the rock adds a lot to the image.
