Shea Stadium Mid-Destruction

The title pretty much says it all. I've got a few more but these are the pick of the litter. I'm sure I'd have walked away with more keepers if I weren't so worried about being arrested for trespassing.

Comments and critiques are welcomed.

Great pics. It reminds me of a post-apocalyptic scene.

Nice. I'm a baseball traditionalist and even though the Mets aren't all that old, it's sad to see Shea Stadium go. They better not replace it with Reynolds Wrap Field.

Nice work as always, Manic. I'm torn between the first two. The first one clearly identifies what it is to any fan, but the second one really shows the desolation of it, as mixedmedia says.

Yeah, I knew it was a construction site but it was still quite scary.

And JJ, for the short time that I actually cared about baseball, I was a Yankees fan. But it's still sad to see it go, being from Queens and all...

Very nice photos.

We went to a game at Shea Stadium last year, and it had one (!!) water fountain in the entire stadium, and it was in the kid's area, which required permission. I found this to be laughably pathetic.

Ideally the new stadium will have two or more water fountains.

It's like the Colosseum in Rome...great shots. It's always a shame to see these places go but it must have needed a new face.

2nd pic is definitely my favourite. The way the colour is all washed out, the single crane sticking out above what's left of the stadium and just desolation of it all...awesome.

I'm drawn towards that digger - it almost looks as if it feels sorry for itself because it's responsible for all that destruction...the lack of colour helps that too. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

This makes me so sad to see it go. Great photos though. Definitely a lot of memories in that place.

First off, great pics.. you always do nice work

secondly.. I've never understood why the people in NY always want to tear something down and built it back again.. I mean..look at wrigley and fenway.. old as shit but probably the two best out there for real fans of the game.. you would think that they would keep something and make it great.. I guess people just want water fountains these days

They're essentially contrasty black and white shots with rather muted colors.

Healer, I like how you've read 'em.

Gucci, I think it's a piss-poor use of tax dollars but what can you do?

Those are nice. I'm a big fan of pictures of urban decay. The fact that they're nearly colorless is a nice touch.

Well we can't win 'em all. I've still got my fingers crossed in hopes that 42nd street reverts back to it's old perverted self.

S_G - it's a ball player in mid throw. And it's all gone now - I passed through the area on my way back from an art museum a few minutes away and it's all rubble and dirt.
