Looking for a Nikon DSLR lens
Hey everyone, I just bought my wife a Nikon D70 and got her a 55-200mm lens to go with it since we are going to her cousins graduation this spring and wanted something that can zoom in and get pictures from the audience. Well it's a great lens but we need something for the closer up pictures as with the 55-200 you have to be across the room for a decent picture.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a place online or even in the Portland, OR area to pick up a decent priced lens. Being I just bought the camera money is a factor here. I'm looking for something more along the lines of a 16-85mm 18-55mm or 18-70mm preferably a DX lens for the digital SLR but a standard lens would work as well since she normally uses the manual focus anyway. So does anyone know of a place or maybe have a lens like this around that you'd be willing to sell? Let me know, -Thanks.

I'd buy this one but you should also be able to find plenty of these used. It's nice and cheap but also of good quality and it'll autofocus with the D70.
I have one. edit: If you can't find it used via the site then feel free to give them a call. They have to have these in stock.

I started out with an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm, but then decided to go with just the 18-200mm VR.
The 18-55mm lenses are relatively cheap ($150-180, especially the non-VR lenses ($110+). Adorama, Cameta, and B&H Photo all have used equipment that might be worth searching... can also try searching shopzilla.com or ebay. |

Cool, thanks for the tips, I think I'm going to call around to some of the local shops looking for a 18-200. That seems like a great all around lens that would work for what she's using it for and maybe just sell the 55-200 to absorb some of the cost of it. The VR is vibration resistance isn't it? We're just getting into this, but she has taken some good shots of our puppy and nephew and did some good work with photoshop to really make them pop. Normally I've just used my Nikon L3 point and shoot and loved that except for the slow shutter speed so this is like a whole new world and seems like an expensive one at that. lol
