I've been discovered on Digg
Someone posted a link to my image. Digg - A Breathtaking, Beautiful View of a Desert Storm at Sunset!
It's an older image taken last year in August. I'm a little amazed at how many views it has gotten. This particular image usually averages 10-20 views a day. It's got over 35,000 views since yesterday. The internet can be a curious thing. |

That's right cool, sandman. I think I saved the panoramic stitching that accompanied this pic, far cooler in my eyes, but look at you, the celebrity.
Who tipped you off? Do you visit Digg often?

I used to, and then I migrated over to Reddit. Today, I noticed an abnormal amount of people adding me to their contact lists on Flickr. A comment on the Flickr page by a friend of mine tipped me off on the Digg post, before I got a chance to look at the statistics page. You can figure out where the page referrals are coming from fairly easily.

It's a great shot, i can see why people are hitting it. It's got a great color and warm glow about it. It has an almost surreal feel to it. I love the crisp mountain far in the distance and the great foreground. The glowing cloud head is probably what makes it stand out as an eye (and crowd) pleaser. I think it is what gives the shot the extra pop.
Congrats on the diggs! and grats on the shot!

Someone commented they were going to print it on canvas...better get to them and tell them what they owe you for the privilege.
Man, there are some stoopid people out there... "the shadows are all wrong"....uh, and what shadows would they be? Another thinks it's a screen shot from some vid game... It is nice, but reading those comments makes me think Digg ain't all that. Last edited by ngdawg; 10-25-2008 at 06:20 PM.. |

Ng, I've found the comments on digg are a slight, but nearly unrecognizable, step above writings on a bathroom stall.

Just kidding. Beautiful shot! How do you get that lighting? Storm behind you, or off to your west?

But just to put things in perspective. The pic got over 1000 diggs. There are about 100 comments on the thread. There are about 12 new comments on the image (at Flickr). There are over 40,000 new viewers. Less than 1% even bothered to comment at all. In short... it's the views that amaze me. Oh... and as for the using the image on a canvas, it's licensed under Creative Commons. You're free to do whatever you like with any of my images just as long as it's not for commercial purposes. -----Added 26/10/2008 at 02 : 31 : 15----- I was looking west. Your pic is my new desktop background.
Quick question: Is that the Chocolate Mountains in California? Looks like El Centro where I used to live.
