Weird Things I Saw at Old Town

This past weekend I took my daughter to Old Town which is a local area attraction with shops, bars, restaurants, and carnival rides.

It was a spectacle of the strange and beautiful.

Where's Waldo? :p

Sometimes it was difficult to tell the real from the unreal.

If you ever see me working in a poodle skirt at 60+ you have my permission to kill me.

My zombie boyfriend. I think I coulda had 'em. He was a very charming young man.

You tell me. Is this is dead girl sharing an ice cream cone with a dalmatian?
There is another one of a girl eating an ice cream cone, but it's too fucking perverted to post here, lol. Weird shit...

Did he order the burger and fries? Or did the burger and fries order him?

What the? Somebody tell me.

Some weird t-shirts:

Yes, this was on a t-shirt.

You put in a dollar and you get to watch a real rubber man get electrocuted! Sweet!

We were there for 3 1/2 hours and this girl was immersed in this book the entire time. She ran the caricature booth...guess caricatures just don't have the draw they used to.

I'm wondering why the ice cream looks like a naked butt.

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 05:54 AM

and there was a lot more to this mural...all kinds of freaky scenarios with dead and/or malformed people. It was totally bizarre.

I have absolutely no doubt. On both counts. ;)

There is something too perverted to post at TFP? Now you have me intrigued...

Those are nice photos. Very colorful and some interesting characters.

Shouldn't Boo have something over her face?

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 09:17 AM

Can you see her face?

I took it off. On my computer her face looks obscured.

And the other mural shot portrays a little girl and her relation to the ice cream cone is...questionable.

aha! as portrayed by Michael Stipe.

...actually, more like Erich von Stroheim

Oh, it looked like a reflection over half of her face. I was just curious.

Which end was she using? Because I would think the pointy end would be a bit uncomfortable and the other end kind of messy. :orly:

That would be quite a wall to see.

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 09:44 AM

well, actually it's the round, ice cream end and her mouth and freaky dead-looking face hovering over it

Well, then this tread is titled appropriately.

Starkizzer 07-21-2008 10:59 AM

MM you have me really intrigued about the rest of that weird mural. Maybe its just because I love weird stuff like that...I love Frida Khalo, is it worst than that kind of stuff or just because its a lil girl possibly?

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 11:05 AM

Oh, LC, it is nothing, nothing like Frida Kahlo.

More like Norman Rockwell on a bad, bad, bad acid trip that also happened to deprive him of every ounce of aesthetic grace. :p

I will edit some more of them and post them later. Because of the lighting in there, only a few of them came out well.

Ya got me.
I don't know that either ever portrayed Richthofen. The only thing that I remember Stroheim from is Heart of Humanity.

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 12:44 PM

No, I'm just saying he looks like him as depicted in the painting.

I found the painting to have comical flair...much like everything I saw that day.

Bill O'Rights 07-21-2008 01:19 PM

Oh.

OK.

I get it.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. :o
DOH!!

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 01:23 PM

I don't think it's you, Bill. ;)

macmanmike6100 07-21-2008 01:43 PM

for the past few years I've encouraged people to visit obscure towns nearby to them, mainly because of increasing travel costs and a desire to help boost the domestic economy. but of course, there is much inherent value in visiting places like this, that might as well be foreign countries. great post!

Cernunnos 07-21-2008 02:02 PM

mixedmedia, I haven't visited Old Town in years! These photos make me want to give it a go again. The carnival rides are always fun, especially the wooden rollercoaster in the back. No line, I must have taken twenty or thirty trips. :D

mixedmedia 07-21-2008 02:55 PM

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, Cernunnos, but the rollercoaster is no longer wooden. I suppose they have replaced it. It is now a steel rollecoaster.

Pity that, because I love wooden rollercoasters.

Oh ok, well the pictures you posted came out great! I meant to say that in my first post. I love the obscureness of them.

blahblah454 07-21-2008 04:05 PM

What a nifty looking place!

I support single moms too. That would be a good shirt for a night out with the boys.

I like that painting of the giant fries and the small man.

SSJTWIZTA 07-21-2008 05:39 PM

nice mix, your right. im glad i checked this out. ohh the nostalgia.

i heard they they took the electrocution thing down, i guess not.

i used to hang out here all the time when i was 16 or so. mohawk up, lounging in front of the tattoo shop or haunted house. most of the time i would get bored and sit on the petrified logs by the crystal shop and drink a beer, ever watchful of the police.

hope you had fun at that odd little place, i know i used too.

(PS, don't touch too much stuff at the "Groovy" shop. they hate it)

*Nikki* 07-23-2008 12:36 PM

/me likes the zombie guy :)

mixedmedia 07-23-2008 02:09 PM

You're not the only one who loves wooden rollercoasters. Don't worry, I won't shoot the messenger.

The first rollercoaster I ever rode was the Scream Machine in Atlanta which was, at the time, the world's largest wooden rollercoaster. Me gots a soft spot for 'em . :)

Beautiful and bizzarre. I love the girl reading her book, and the retiree in a poodle skirt.

Bear Cub 07-23-2008 07:26 PM

My favorite pic is #2, but I want to see the rubber man sizzle!

mixedmedia 07-23-2008 07:33 PM

Thank you, gg. :)

What's even better Bear Cub is the noises he made while he was sitting there....lots of animal grunting and growling....like he was gonna bust out any minute...grawr! :)

Well, you know, 'cause I'm in a generous mood, I just went to YouTube and found a video of the thing...and it makes me ill. But I will give you the link.

Just for reference in case I'm ever on a job site out that way, whereabouts in FL is this place?

mixedmedia 07-23-2008 08:04 PM

It is in Kissimmee, just south of Orlando, on Highway 192.

Basically if you are heading south on I-4 then exit at Hwy. 192 and turn right, you go to Disney.
Turn left, you go to this place.

Old Town Shopping, Dining & Entertainment Attraction in Kissimmee, Florida

Bear Cub 07-23-2008 08:07 PM

Thanks, I will definitely keep it in mind!
