....Post pics and we'll quess where they where taken
mine is first..... |
What a great idea for a thread!
I'm going to guess Texas. How about this place, where do you think we are? http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1085/...ef42c0007d.jpg |
mine not Texas.....xoxoxoo
your's.........that's Turkey.......???? |
Is it Hawaii, bobby?
|
Nope, mine isn't Turkey. Good guess, though.
Bobby, maybe yours is in Africa - Tanzania, overlooking Lake Victoria? |
That looks like Pikes Peak, bobby.. :)
http://www.dskendall.com/images/co_pikes_peak.jpg Wherever it was, you were above 10,000 feet, I'd wager. |
The vegetation in Bobby's picture looks like the coastal grass in Oregon, and the grass I've seen in Nevada. I'm going to guess Nevada.
GG, I'll guess Pugeot Sound in Washington, even though it's probably too sunny in the photo for that. |
Quote:
mine was taken on Maui, you can just see the big Island in the far distance! ...definately not puget sound,I live there and no rocky beaches with buildings like that... xoxoxoo |

....THIS WAY and THAT WAY................ |
Right part of the world, Bobby, but a little further south.
|
ItWasMe - Definitely not. Wrong continent, even.
Here's a couple more, taken from the next closest major city, to help you get oriented: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1419/...24b79b424b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1135/...34be7b12b9.jpg Bobby - Maui, eh? That's Hawaii! I'm jealous! It looks beautiful. Do you have any images that you'd like to share, which would give me a better idea of the vegetation? Looks like from that first photo you have some bunch grasses, which unfortunately isn't too informative... I thought Molokai was more desert than Maui... Lucifer - That's an amazing shot. I was going to guess Morocco, but since you say it's south of Cairo, that's out of the question. How about Sohag? It's a little further down the Nile. |
GG - I'm going to go with Monaco. And on the Nile is actually a little colder than warmer. Think exotic Africa and way further south.
|
Lucifer, you're so close I'm going to give it away. Menton, France. 11.3km away from Monaco. Great work!

Maputo, Mozambique? Ah, but wait... it seems much more likely to be in Antananarivo, Madagascar. Note: the following photo is not my own. It was taken from this website http://www.onlineclimbing.com/stephen/images/24-1.jpg |
You are very close too, but still far enough away that I'm not going to give it away. Try again, a little further north. Look for an exotic name, a mix of Arab/Sawhili/Somali/Masai cultures, with a little bit of Queen thrown in.
|
Lucifer - perhaps your photo is of Stone Town, the older part of Zanzibar City, on the island of Zanzibar, in Tanzania.
A map of the region, pilfered from this website. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/africa/zanzibar_77.jpg In this region, they certainly make use of boats with similarly beautiful sails. An image of a boat suspiciously similar to the one in your photo, from this website. http://www.shoortravel.com/image/Zan...sea%20view.jpg |

You are right, it's a photo of Stone Town on Zanzibar. Easily the most exotic place I've ever been.
Another shot of the dhows reaching in on the afternoon trade winds from the deck of the ship I was sailing on. Attachment 17219 |
Incredible!
I cannot imagine visiting such a culturally rich, striking location. For kicks, I checked the cost of flights to visit this beautiful Zanzibar. It is prohibitively expensive from California, roughly $2,500 on the low end. I will put it on my list of places to savor from a distance. |
