It was America's first historic residential neighborhood, Created in the 1970's.

There are a mix of styles of homes and socioeconomic backgrounds here....

On With the tour....

a lot of wood and weathered brick in this home

This house has facinated me for its rather garish color scheme. (I Recently spoke with its owner and she said that that wonderful mix of colors will be going away soon )

Your pictures remind me a lot of Oak Park, outside of Chicago.

I kind of like the 'garish' colors. Too much beiges and grays in life as it is...

That beige brick house reminds me of places around southern Ontario. The character and charm of old houses is quite beautiful.

Reminds me of Halifax. Hey... since when was there something wrong with having colour in our neighbourhoods?

I visited Grand Rapids a number of years ago to visit some very old family friends--they came over on the boat with my grandparents, and their son was my dad's playmate on the trip here from the Netherlands. It was really surreal, because a lot of major things there are named after the Van Andel family--my grandpa's stepdad's family. But we enjoyed the chance to see a lot of the old homes in the area, which is something my entire family enjoys. Thank you for sharing these pictures--it reminds me of my trip there.
