Diners
Decided to do a diner hunt. There's an abundance of retro diners around here:

You should perhaps go inside :D
The outfits and nostalgia and stuff and memorabilia and the menu and diner-style and the rest, uh-huh... |
Going inside so many when out riding is how I decided to start the 'hunt'...best time to photograph the inside would be well after midnight; I'm sure at some point, I'll be doing so. ;)

Great shots! I love the diners here in NJ. Its great driving down the road and seeing those lights! Not sure where you actually live, but a two nices one to check out ar The Broadway diner in Red Bank and the Americana in Eatontown. They both have a really cool "old school" feel to them. And if you want a decent omlet, pop into the Americana!
|
I'll keep those in mind, thanks :) I have my sights set on the Manalapan Diner on Rt 9 and two diners on Rt 130 in Hightstown that are lit up like Christmas trees!
I've done two posters and hopefully can make one out of these-it takes a minimum of 24 or so photos to make a decent one; if I can get about 10 diners plus interiors, I may have something! |
My aunt lives out in Hightstown, and I think know one of the ones you are referring to, also named "Americana" I believe =). The Manalapan diner is pretty much around the corner from me and is another great one. Rt. 9 is littered with nice diners. Little things like that remind me of how much I LOVE living in NJ.

The Broadway Diner-a true 'railcar' diner.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1438/...1a63b4216d.jpg Something you don't see anymore-table jukeboxes! Not sure if they work, but songs are by such names as Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1127/...fbff8b97_o.jpg |
I have never seen table jukeboxes!
Astounding! Great work as always, ngdawg! Though very, very, pink; could use some interior decorating. |

I used to live in Red Bank, and would routinely walk there at 2-3am when I was either just hungry, after hitting the bars, or out of boredem. I recall the jukeboxes used to work, not sure if they still do though. Was kinda neat to sit there and just listen to music :) Great shots, bring me back hehe. |
The neon is nice, and brings me back to the 50's when I was younger. Thank you.
|
I loved the neon ones too. I remember seeing an exhibition all about diners many years ago--I think the retro feel appeals to many on an artistic level.

if you're up for a road trip - especially late at night - head to the Bendix Diner in Hasbrouck Heights - it's on route 17 - the movie boys on the side did some shooting there...

Crystal Diner in Toms River, NJ

What's odd is that there's still salt and pepper shakers, cups, coffee pots.... http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0184.jpg http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0187.jpg http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0186.jpg These are from the Clairmont in Hightstown. Someone in Flickr said it was in The Sopranos http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0199.jpg http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0204.jpg http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0201.jpg http://www.reevesphotographics.com/i...8/PICT0177.jpg |
