Missed shots of an amazing sunset last night. Wasn't expecting much because of clouds over the mountains and the haze, could see the outline of the mountains but not any detail. Boy was I wrong. There was a small opening in the clouds between the sun and the mountains in which it started. Red rays of light spreading out from this opening, coloring the haze in streaks of red and pink. As the sun moved lower it went past this little opening. It was an intense red. I can't even describe it. I have never seen anything like it. And I didn't have my camera with me. So I guess in the mean time, I will just post up some other recent shots.

Thanks for looking.

They all look nice, but I think I would have placed the sun off center a bit.

I think the fourth one is most interesting. There's no real focal point so your eyes just sort of swim all over it.

3rd picture reminds me of a Monet painting.
Cool shots...ethereal feel to them.

The first photo is one of those examples of when the rule of thirds doesn't always work for composition. This is just simply an amazing shot. You captured it at the perfect moment and the centered composition works.

The 4th shot is very surreal. It looks tone-mapped. Is it?

Thats one thing I am unsure of on shots like this. These are the first sunset shots I have done with water/lakes in them. No matter how I composed them, they seemed off to me. The last shot is the only one that I didn't feel was composed wrong. lol. But I am not sure how to compose them differently.

I don't mind at all. If you want a larger res, or no border let me know. Won't always offer that, but on all but the last shot here I don't mind it.

Thanks. That 3rd shot is odd. The very rare time of shooting a sunset with the sun behind you. lol. I think the most interesting part of all these is that shots 2, 3 and 4 were all shots within half an hour of one another, and within 30 yards of each other. The 3rd is looking east, the other 2 looking west lol.

Thanks. I will post up more one of these days. Just gotta pick and choose which ones. Try to keep a thread subject similar (sunsets, or macros) so gotta look through tons of shots to get a topic. lol

Thanks. The 4th shot just has a small saturation boost to bring the Raw file closer to what it looked like. Hate to admit this, but I have no clue what tone-mapped even is... lol. One thing that does bother me is that when viewed full screen the impact (at least to me) is much greater than on the resize you see here. The fog off the water kinda vanishes on the reize and it loses a lot.

Great photos! Colorado and Oregon are 2 of the most beautifull states in the
USA! I hope to see more in the future.
