Few shots

First off, wow. Haven't posted here in forever. Not like I posted much before anyways. lol. Things have changed is seems. Change is good. That said, I might be spending a bit more time here, see if I can help anyone out, though I am not exactly a great photographer. lol. So, how about a few simple shots to start things off? :) Critiques encouraged.

Its a full manual Sigma 90mm. Pain to use since you have to guesstimate the exposure and adjust from there. Doesn't talk to the camera, but has decent image quality. :)

You seem to have mastered the mysterious black art of taking phenomenal macro shots. These are awesome. What did you use for lighting? anything external?

Any idea what kind of spider that is?

All are just natural light. I don't use flashes, diffusers and such. I keep reading about how to get good macro shots one needs a tripod, flash, diffusers or (in some cases) reflectors. I shoot handheld using only the available light. Perhaps things would improve if I used "proper" technique, but I am happy with the results.

I always hear that spider refered to as a crab spider. Dunno its actual name. Heres a few more of a jumping spider.

Surprising. I would have thought you were using all the gizmos to get these shots. Well done.

Wow! Cool bugs! It's a feat to get something that tiny so clear.

there really isn't much room for improvement in your shots. You don't need a tripod unless camera movement becomes an issue. But the D70 can take fast shots even with slower lenses, so that's less of a problem. Good thing too, since bugs have an annoying habit of moving, making handheld the way to go ;) Really nice shots!

Great picture, I love the butterflies! Thanks for sharing!

Macro is the stuff. Those last three were as close to perfect as it gets.

JumpinJesus 07-05-2006 02:57 PM

Color me impressed that these were hand held, also. Those shots of the jumping spider are outstanding.

Thanks for all the kind words. :)
