Right vs. Fun

Now this is a simple question...

Why is it that what is right and what you want to do are always opposites?

Perfect example, a friend an I were going to the movies, and he was bringing this chick he thought was cool...for me. Now my bother assumed that he was going with us....The right thing? Take my brother, what I wanted? Tell him to fuck off...

Why does this always happen?

(BTW, I got out of the situation, because it turns out he couldn't go do to having work with my gradfather...but I was planning on the "right" choice)

I hate having a moral compass sometimes....

I don't think this is a moral dilemma. The problem here is you were embarrassed to tell your brother (little brother, I assume) that you were trying to hook up. Not a moral problem. If your brother knew your intentions didn't realize it was a "double date," and wanted to come anyway, _he_ would have been the dick, not you.

For your bigger question, however, I think that it's often not a moral dilemma so much as a LEGAL one. I think that, in general, you can be a nice guy and still get your laughs.

What did you end up doing with movie night?

Right and fun are not mut. exclusive it just seems that way.

No, you should be able to tell your brother that you are going with a girl you want to bang and that he would only get in the way. And he should understand. I don't see any problem.

As far as the movie goes...I guess you could say it was a success...after all I went, and watched a movie....As far as the girl..Not so good.

She had kind of an abrasive personality, She was like "joking" the whole night, but one of those people who takes joking one step to far.

(my brother did not go...)
THe thing with my brother though, is that at time he gets kind of depressed, because he feels neglected I think...Who Knows, Im a nice guy and I hate to see that expression on his face...

You should trade your brother in for my brother. It didn't matter where I was going or who I was going with, he was always welcome. I mean, the second funniest moment in my life was when I heard that "Play That Funky Music" was his cellphone ring tone. ;)

I love the kid, but sometimes things are just easier without an audience you know? In the end I wish I had brought him...Cuz my friend and his girlfriend did their thing, and I was left with this incredibly weird chick to talk to....

On a side note, yeah krwlz, I know what you mean about your brother. The difference is I really like taking my bro everywhere (most of the time) and that's the problem. My bro's 9 years younger than me which makes him 11 (he hasn't had his birthday yet and I'm 21). I take him to LAN parties, the beach, the movies, etc with me and my friends and he fits in pretty well. But sometimes I'm worried that I'm exposing him to an age bracket he's not ready for. That, and that I'm taking away the joy he'd have in investigating the perils of growing on his own (I'm pensive about me "fast-tracking" him). But I still love him to death and love to take him out with me and my buds.

Now back to the question of right vs. fun ;)

krwlz 06-03-2003 03:26 PM

Well, mine is two years younger than me, so he kind of adopted my friends, rather then try to fit into a clich (sp?) of his own...I kinda feel bad for him, so I try to include him, but sometimes I just have to say no...
