drat! sick on his birthday

Today is Son#1's birthday. He is sick. Sick as a dog. It's probably strep throat. We'll know tomorrow. One year ago today he was sick. He had pneumonia.

Poor kid can't make it though a birthday without contracting some horrible pathogen. I feel so bad for him. He's so sick he doesn't want to open his presents. At least he had a party last weekend. Last year we had to cancel it.

Next year I'm sticking him in a big, sterile, plastic bubble for the week preceeding his birthday.

drat

Hmm, was he in recent contact with your thumb? That could be the cause of who-knows-how-many ills.

awww poor kid. At least he had his party before he got sick. I hope he gets well soon and can enjoy opening his gifts then.

I keep telling him not to suck my thumb...

Actually, lately I've been on him about chewing his nails. He's CONSTANTLY got his fingers in his mouth. I just started telling him that if he keeps it up he'll get sick. (the kid knows all about germs, scabs & white blood cells, so it seemed to resonate with him).

Hmmm...now I can say, "SEE! I TOLD YOU SO!"

So sad to hear it. I had one b-day like that. My mom had gotten a gorgeous cake from the bakery even. Just a bakery cake was special cause most of the time she made these lopsided creations for our b-day cakes. She went to pick up the cake that morning. I saw it when she got back, barely an hour later I was in the bathroom throwing up with stomach flu for the rest of the day. The crowning moment was when one of our friends families came over unexpectedly with a present and their youngest (I'd played with their kids two days before) puked and a little bit nailed my present that they'd brought. UG.

I hope his b-day or the day after is MUCH better than mine.

As for sick 2 years in a row on his b-day. Have you considered alleriges?? My Mom was coming down with pneumonia for 3 years in a row before she discovered she had a seasonal allergy and it made her prone to infection. She started taking allergy meds prior to any problems around that time and this year has been the first in a long time that she's not had a sinus infection or pneumonia.

Good Luck.

2nd birthday - strep
3rd birthday - found out I was alergic to cats... the hard way.
4th birthday - chicken pox
5th birthday - strep

So when I finally DID get a birthday party, I had no clue what it was. :-P
