So I'm going to be a father...
Just had our 3 month scan and everything seems fine.
I can't believe it. Some of you that know me may remember we've had some bad luck before. Mrs Mephisto lost a pregnancy (and a fallopian tube) last year when she was rushed into hospital with an ectopic. Made for an interesting holiday. Having half her reproductive system removed made her a bit uneasy about whether she could have a child again. I've always told her not to worry... And earlier this year my brother and sister-in-law lost their child ten days before full term. So, to say that I was nervous would have been an understatement. I know we're not through the woods yet, but I'm told the first three months are the most risky. Wish me luck. Mr Mephisto |

Mr. and Mrs. Mephisto,
My good luck and healthy Family vibes are out there making thier way to you!! ~*~*~*~ I also lost a baby a year ago, however it was not as tough as what your wife has gone through! But she (and you) didn't let that scare you and that shows some great strength! Just make sure she relaxes and drinks water and takes her vitamins, and whatever else the doc recommends!! On a side note, I am in my second month of pregnancy!

That's so great... congratulations.
You know this is only the beginning of worrying about your kid. You will be doing it for the rest of your life. Take a moment to swish that around in your noggin... Cheers!

Good luck! My wife and I had about 4 miscarriages and she was told she'd be lucky to carry to term, but about 8 and a half months ago she did just that. Just stay positive.

Now is a good time to make a diary - so you can go back and have a look at your life before being a father. It's fun to se how much you change (mostly to the better *S*)

Congrats and best of luck to you both!
We just passed the 3 month mark ourselves and while sexymama hasn't had an aborted pregnacy before, we were on pins and needles ourselves since she is older with an accompanying increased chance of Downs. But the ultrasound looked really really good, so we feel comfortable at this point waiving the amnio.

Many thanks to all for their kind comments so far. Hopefully everything will go OK.
I used to think it was a cliche, but Mrs Mephisto looks positively radiant lately. She's never been more beautiful. And happy too. Of course we get the odd hormonal explosion (I never knew forgetting to clean the bathroom could cause such a tornado of anger!), but I can live with these; they're transient and, thankfully, survivable when met with complete and abject apology. Congratulations also seem in order for lebell (good luck to you too mate!), and Hash-Browns! I hope everything goes well for you two too... And Devoid, I know how you feel and am delighted you have won through in the end. Good for you! And good for us... Mr Mephisto |

We are due on June 4th. I'm actually just past the 5 month mark -- wow time flies!

Enjoy every moment of it. Parenting is a mad soup of worry, wonder, joy and sleepless nights. The worrying never ends, but it just means you're in love and care. Find a good kids book and read it every night to the little one.
I'm sure it seems real to you now, but wait until you see/hold em on day one... that's when the weight of being a dad settled heavy on my shoulders. Everything pales after that. In a good way. Have fun. I'm sending my very best thoughts towards you and your family. Oh yeah... the nesting thing gets serious as the d-day approaches. Cleaning becomes verrryyyy important to her. You should check out some books by Dr. Sears. He rules.

Oh yeah, Breast feed.
Get the womanly art of breastfeeding. I contribute my 3 month olds remarkable acceleration to the breast, hands down. The above books are truly awesome as well. MAKE SURE you get the LATEST edition of all the books. It's easy to pick up the 5 year old prints on accident. |

Congrats to all the expecting ones.
My wife really liked "Up the Duff" by Kaz Cooke, which in USA is called "Bun in the Oven" this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846 Good reading during pregnancy!

Thanks again everyone.
Yeah, I bought my wife "Up the Duff". She also has a more "serious" pregnancy book. She tells me they both compliment each other very well. I have no idea who Dr Sears is, and I'm guessing some of the other titles recommended are American. Mr Mephisto |

Congrats Mr and Mrs Mephisto, and other expectant parents. And tell Mrs M to read the books she wants to before she has the baby, 'cos there ain't a lot of time for reading after!

Fortunately for me, this isn't sexymama's first, so I am relying on her vast store of knowledge.
That, and until very recently, it just hasn't been real to me. Now we have the ultrasound pics and a name, so it is very real. So when I get back, it is a top priority to figure out wtf I need to do for this new life...
