Mephisto2 01-14-2005 06:48 AM

So I'm going to be a father...

Just had our 3 month scan and everything seems fine.

I can't believe it.

Some of you that know me may remember we've had some bad luck before. Mrs Mephisto lost a pregnancy (and a fallopian tube) last year when she was rushed into hospital with an ectopic. Made for an interesting holiday. Having half her reproductive system removed made her a bit uneasy about whether she could have a child again. I've always told her not to worry...

And earlier this year my brother and sister-in-law lost their child ten days before full term.

So, to say that I was nervous would have been an understatement. I know we're not through the woods yet, but I'm told the first three months are the most risky.

Wish me luck.

I wish you and the Mrs. the best of luck!!!

Hash_Browns 01-14-2005 07:00 AM

Mr. and Mrs. Mephisto,

My good luck and healthy Family vibes are out there making thier way to you!! ~*~*~*~

I also lost a baby a year ago, however it was not as tough as what your wife has gone through! But she (and you) didn't let that scare you and that shows some great strength! Just make sure she relaxes and drinks water and takes her vitamins, and whatever else the doc recommends!!

On a side note, I am in my second month of pregnancy!

Averett 01-14-2005 07:01 AM

That's so great! Best of luck to you and Mrs Mephisto :D

maleficent 01-14-2005 07:04 AM

Congratulations... Mr and Mrs M.... (and Hash Browns too)

ShaniFaye 01-14-2005 07:08 AM

glad to know things are ok at this point sweetie!!!!

Charlatan 01-14-2005 07:30 AM

That's so great... congratulations.

You know this is only the beginning of worrying about your kid. You will be doing it for the rest of your life. Take a moment to swish that around in your noggin...

Cheers!

tecoyah 01-14-2005 07:42 AM

Rock on Sir.......them boys can swim. Been there four times now, any questions let me know.

God of Thunder 01-14-2005 07:44 AM

Congratulations!!!

Your world is about to change in ways that cannot even imagine, and all for the good.

I know, my girl is just over a year old now.

Hope all works out well for you both.

Devoid 01-14-2005 07:44 AM

Good luck! My wife and I had about 4 miscarriages and she was told she'd be lucky to carry to term, but about 8 and a half months ago she did just that. Just stay positive. :)

joeb1 01-14-2005 08:24 AM

Wishing you the best!!! And to Mrs Mephistos well!!!

Good wishes to you also hash_browns!!

powerclown 01-14-2005 09:10 AM

SiN 01-14-2005 02:41 PM

Congrats, and I wish you, Mrs, and the Little One the best of luck.

:)

freeload 01-14-2005 02:53 PM

Congratulations and best wishes to both of you!
Now is a good time to make a diary - so you can go back and have a look at your life before being a father. It's fun to se how much you change (mostly to the better *S*)

Lebell 01-14-2005 04:25 PM

Congrats and best of luck to you both!

We just passed the 3 month mark ourselves and while sexymama hasn't had an aborted pregnacy before, we were on pins and needles ourselves since she is older with an accompanying increased chance of Downs.

But the ultrasound looked really really good, so we feel comfortable at this point waiving the amnio.

Mephisto2 01-14-2005 05:31 PM

Many thanks to all for their kind comments so far. Hopefully everything will go OK.

I used to think it was a cliche, but Mrs Mephisto looks positively radiant lately. She's never been more beautiful. And happy too. Of course we get the odd hormonal explosion (I never knew forgetting to clean the bathroom could cause such a tornado of anger!), but I can live with these; they're transient and, thankfully, survivable when met with complete and abject apology.

Congratulations also seem in order for lebell (good luck to you too mate!), and Hash-Browns! I hope everything goes well for you two too... :) And Devoid, I know how you feel and am delighted you have won through in the end. Good for you! And good for us... :)

Congrats! When are you due? And Devoid, you?

We are due on June 4th. I'm actually just past the 5 month mark -- wow time flies!

01-14-2005 08:33 PM

Congratulations, Meph, being nervous shows signs of a great parent.
I am happy for you and yours, and I wish you all the best.

I was gonna post something pithy, but I better not.

I was just there for the fun part, she is the one carting him around...

:D

filtherton 01-15-2005 12:34 PM

Congrats lebell and mr m!

If it eases your fears any, i was concieved and birthed despite the fact that my mom, due to unfortunate cyst action, had previously had all of one ovary and part of another removed.

dtheriault 01-16-2005 12:54 AM

Enjoy every moment of it. Parenting is a mad soup of worry, wonder, joy and sleepless nights. The worrying never ends, but it just means you're in love and care. Find a good kids book and read it every night to the little one.

I'm sure it seems real to you now, but wait until you see/hold em on day one... that's when the weight of being a dad settled heavy on my shoulders. Everything pales after that.

In a good way.

Have fun. I'm sending my very best thoughts towards you and your family.

Oh yeah... the nesting thing gets serious as the d-day approaches. Cleaning becomes verrryyyy important to her. You should check out some books by Dr. Sears. He rules.

I agree, Dr. Sears is the best!

Congrats Mr. M

discotequi 01-17-2005 10:01 AM

Seems like we've got several June babies on the way in this group... we're due June 26.

Charlatan 01-17-2005 10:20 AM

Hoorah for June Babies!

<---June 27th baby here (both of my kids are fall babies... Dec 10 and Nov 1)

To all who are expecting... get these books. They are most useful:

Force 10 01-17-2005 03:26 PM

Wow, that just put a tear in my eye. As you asked, I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK! My heart goes out to you brother. Really. Stay positive and everything will be positive.

;-)

Force 10 01-17-2005 03:29 PM

Oh yeah, Breast feed.

Get the womanly art of breastfeeding. I contribute my 3 month olds remarkable acceleration to the breast, hands down.

The above books are truly awesome as well. MAKE SURE you get the LATEST edition of all the books. It's easy to pick up the 5 year old prints on accident.

Congrats to all the expecting ones.

My wife really liked "Up the Duff" by Kaz Cooke, which in USA is called "Bun in the Oven" this:

Good reading during pregnancy!

StanT 01-19-2005 07:08 PM

Congratulations, you've just accepted the toughest job you'll ever have and the most rewarding. As best I can tell, you don't ever get to retire from it, either.

Mephisto2 01-19-2005 07:56 PM

Thanks again everyone.

Yeah, I bought my wife "Up the Duff". She also has a more "serious" pregnancy book. She tells me they both compliment each other very well.

I have no idea who Dr Sears is, and I'm guessing some of the other titles recommended are American.

That's really awesome Mephisto! I really hope everything works out and you have a beautiful addition to your family. :)

Ella 01-20-2005 11:35 PM

Congrats Mr and Mrs Mephisto, and other expectant parents. And tell Mrs M to read the books she wants to before she has the baby, 'cos there ain't a lot of time for reading after!

indebut 01-21-2005 12:19 PM

congrats...hope all continues to go well...it is defintely the most enjoyable experience you will ever encounter

Lebell 01-21-2005 12:45 PM

Fortunately for me, this isn't sexymama's first, so I am relying on her vast store of knowledge.

That, and until very recently, it just hasn't been real to me.

Now we have the ultrasound pics and a name, so it is very real.

So when I get back, it is a top priority to figure out wtf I need to do for this new life...

CBlend 01-21-2005 04:05 PM

Congratulations Mr. Mephisto! It's a really thrilling time.

edmos1 01-21-2005 04:34 PM

Congratulations Mr. Mephisto, hashbrowns, discotechi , labell and sexy mama, we just passed our 3rd month here too, looks like we are going to be July, but I figure you can give me hints since you will all be more experienced.

Mephisto2 01-21-2005 04:49 PM

Congratulations everyone!

:D
