Placenta previa
Ok, anyone out there ever experienced this:
http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pre...tions/830.html My wife is 11 weeks pregnant and the OB/GYN just told her that she has the complete version. However, he said not to worry (right...) and that most times this works itself out by week 20. I would love to give her some comferting advice so the next 9 weeks aren't a nervous nightmare. |
This part from the link you provided would be VERY comforting to me:
If an early ultrasound (between 12 and 14 weeks) shows the placenta near, or covering the cervix, don't be alarmed — it is most likely not placenta previa. As the uterus grows, it naturally pulls the placenta away from the cervix; in these cases, medical intervention generally isn't necessary. Also, from my own recent experiences with all kinds of wildly incorrect predictions and scary foreshadowing, those OB/GYNs do everything they can to make you aware and acutely nervous about every single possible problem which might in even the slightest way possible surface as a pregancy or gestation progresses. Take everything with a grain of salt. Most of the time it turns out to be nothing, and the added burden's of this knowledge only make a difficult time (pregancy) even more difficult. Sit back, take a chill, love your wife and prepare for the birth of a beautiful healthy baby. You only need to deal with problems when they exist as far as I'm concerned. I've got a little journal/thread I've been updating in this forum that might give you a little perspective on everything. We were anticipating entirely different issues then the one's we actually had to deal with. Hope this helps, -bear |
We just went through a scare that our's might have Down syndrome. When I started talking to people (after it was confirmed definitely not Down) I was amazed at how many people were told the same thing. I think that doctors are working hard to avoid law suits, so they always give the worst possible scenario.
You and your wife will be in my thoughts! Best of luck and stay healthy. |
At 13 weeks,, pregnant with my twins, I began bleeding. A sonogram showed placenta previa with my son. I spent the next trimester in bed and as they grew, the placenta worked its way up. Early labor at 31 weeks caused it to move again and bleed, so it was back to bed for another 4 weeks. But, I went the entire 40 weeks(being induced yet!) and my son and his sister were perfectly healthy.
Do what the doctor says if this is the diagnosis. Good luck and congrats! |
Thanks all, I'll keep you updated

No tips or advice, just warm wishes for a healthy duration of the pregnancy. Definitely keep us posted!

Well, we finally got resolution on this one. The placenta moved and she and the baby (girl number 4) are perfectly fine, so no more previa scare.

Congrats Nemo!! That's awesome news :) Glad it worked itself out.
