my lil one is almost 11 months old and am curious about what age should she not see me in the nude...she loves to open the shower curtain when the wife or I am in the shower....we dont have any doors on the downstairs bathroom....

The kids will let you know!

I've tried to make it a point to not hide anything from my kids. This goes against my more puritanical upbringing, but I don't want my kids to think there's anything shameful about the naked body. Both my wife and I try to be very open about it. When the kids ask, what's this, what's that, we tell them, and they think about it, and then they lose interest.

One day, after coming home from work, my two-year-old excitedly ran up to me and whispered in my ear, "Peanut! Peanut!" I think I know what my wife was talking about to them during the day. :)

Nudity is not something to be ashamed of. Ever. If you feel uncomfortable being nude around your kid then just don't do it. Don't make a big deal about it though. Don't impose your insecurities on your children.

That probably didn't sound the way I meant it ... but I hope you get what I'm saying.

Let your children see you naked as often as happens. If you are a modest person by nature, then so be it, but don't let having a kid around stop you from wandering naked down the hallway. I've seen my parents naked more times than I care to remember, and I don't think I turned out the worse for it.

Im not sure that my kids have ever seen me in the buff. I do make an effort to not be nude around them, as they are girls age 10 and 12. I did help them with baths up to about age 6-7.

I don't think nudity is even an issue when it comes to family.

My 10 year old son sees my wife and I naked all the time (our house is very small) and my two year old daughter is likely to have the same experience (unless we miracuously move to a ginormous house).

Here's something to chew on... in Finland it is common practice for families to take Sauna's together. This would be nude saunas. In fact, the main sauna in the hotel I stayed in while I was there was closed because a wedding party had booked it for the day (i.e. Mothers, Fathers, in laws too all naked and sweating...).

Hm... unless they tell you they are uncomfortable with seeing your birthday suit, don't bother. For us (and my family) it's not an issue. Except my in-laws (thank god) I've seen them all nude, no problems.
Guess norwegians are a little like the finish people - not a lot of saunas, but a lot of skinnydipping in the pool.

Wow, I thought I was alone on this issue, that I was weird because my son sees me naked all the time and it doesn't bother me one bit. Doesn't bother him either, although he's only three and I don't think he fully realizes what "naked" is yet...or hasn't learned to be ashamed of it, that is. Glad to see I'm not alone!

i never said that i am ashamed of being naked in front of her...when i was growing up my sister and i would always see each other in our underwear and stuff...if its not winter(cause its a lil cold) i sit around in my boxers and most of the time you maybe able to see down them :lol:

I hope my kids never feel "ashamed" of their bodies and nudity. I know you didn't mean in that way but it's the truth. My family was never "shy" when it came to nudity. I would see my sisters nude every once and a while and I was never ashamed of my penis because I knew what an average size was from my dad and brother changing near me after we swam in my pool. Seeing my sisters made me treat women's bodies with respect... I wouldn't want some horny teenager oggling my sister, so when I was going through highschool I didn't think about it to the extent of my friends.

I think I'm going to be very liberal about nudity in my household when I begin having kids but I mean there is a line. I'm not suggesting that you dance nude in front of your kids but don't teach them to "hide their shame". I'm sure you'll find a great balance between the two.

Hmmm...I didn't realize what I had posted when I posted it. No, I don't want him to be ashamed, as I am not ashamed to be around him after I've got out of the shower or something.

i'm not going to hide anything from my soon to be born kid (July 25th due date) but i dont think i'm gonna go off doing the funky chicken in the buff in front of them. i've heard of too many people having problems with CPS because of young child making comments like "my daddy danced with me nakey" to a teacher.

I have two girls (yes I am female, don't let the name fool you ;)) And they see me naked all the time. We also have a small house and I am a stay-at-home mom, so I am here most of the day with them (except when the eldest is at school) and they see me naked all the time. I'm not ashamed, and they know what a vagina is and what breasts are. They are 2 and 5. My 5 year old has been taught that anything she wants to keep private is her business. She even called her bellybutton private one day, so we covered it up with a long shirt, if she wanted it to be only hers then it was. Then there are days where she wants to run around the house in just some shorts or whatever, and I tell her she is allowed, but not where other people can see her, because those are parts that aren't for strangers. In my opinion that is the only truth out there for my kids. I was taken advantage of when I was younger (around her age now) by a family member, and so am doing my best to let her be free, but to know her limits and to know the difference between bad and good experiences and how to deal with both. She doesn't walk around undressed in front of company, but Nana and Papa or Mom and Dad, she knows she can be comfy.

I hope that long story made sense :) short version: Yes they see me nude all the time, and if we have a boy (bun in the oven) he will to, as he will also be breastfed as long as possible so will already be familiar with mommy's body. Daddy on the other hand usually makes sure there in a towel in front when walking around the house, since my eldest turned 5.
